The thing is, why use a PUP when you can use another job that can do it better?

I don't doubt that, one of my friends in SA with me loved PUP so much he raised it on a new character after the bans and he always amazed me with some of the shit I saw him do with it, ha.
I just say it doesn't have a place at those events because generally an end game shell that does that on a regular basis has people with better jobs (harder hitting melees) or better healing types mages (WHM) to stick in those slots instead.
Edit:
Yeah!
I agree but using a PUP is too much variety for me :/ not worth the effort. The way I see it, PUP should be the last thing anyone should level, unless they're doing it for "fun". Who does shit for "fun" nowadays! What does that term even mean?
If anything, BLU is way fucking worse than PUP.
Richardd is good at something besides posting in the rl thread? wow.. never would've thought
What server was this?
Garuda.
Never knew Richardd was a god of xi
He gets respect because he has a good attitude and manages to compliment himself in nearly every post he makes without making it obvious.
Personally don't think he was that great, his gearsets were average at best(my NIN still doesn't have capped skills or get used and every single one of my sets is better than his was), and he didn't add any new concepts to the NIN tanking playstyle. People like him, so the things he did get exaggerated. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will point it out, but looking for:
1. Any way he revolutionized NIN tanking. Noticable change to playstyle, etc.
2. Any gear choices that were new, any gear sets that were outstanding, etc.
If he didn't change how it's played and didn't have great gear for it, then how was he in any way above average? Being willing to tank mobs on NIN that'd be better tanked on other jobs? Hundreds of people could do that, they just use real jobs instead because it's more efficient. Richardd is not Rukenshin, the only thing he's good at is social networking.
Rich was a whole lot faster than the average player, and a fun guy to work with. You could give 99% of the people in FFXI perfect gear and they'd get demolished in places where he'd /sit tank for screenshots that he'd add lens-flare to later. Also, that levity really helped remind everyone that even if we were completely focused and serious about what we were doing, it was still a game. It's possible his gear could have been better, but the fact that I never checked means he was doing pretty well with what he was using.
Also, we had quite a few great DD in SA, but Rich was easily one of our best.
I don't know. I don't see the point in crapping on Rich for not having Denali hands or Darksteel Leggings +1. You can make a pretty compelling argument for S.Kotes over Denali hands in a NIN/DRK oh-shit macro anyway. He was a good guy, and if SE hadn't banned him for helping us with Salvage you'd have gotten to see him in action.
You don't have to invent painting to be the greatest practitioner of the art.
It's not crapping on him. You guys paint him out to be one of the greats like Kaeko or Rukenshin, that's not the case at all. He was an above average tank, but nothing more. Reflexes are limitted by the amount of actions the game allows you to do, and I can name a dozen people with good enough reflexes/judgment to do the right actions as needed and greater intelligence/equipment available. If other people doing what he did better doesn't make them better than him, then by the same logic he isn't any better than the people who NIN tanked before he did.
True, but copying Van Goghs on tracing paper does not a true artist make. You don't have to invent painting to be the greatest practitioner of the art.
It's really hard to judge unless you played with him. He may not have pioneered any formulas but the whole point is the dude was a great player and tried harder than most, and considering how well he did in tough situations he definitely deserves the praise he gets/got.
I know right? I don't think he would've seen it unless it got pointed out.
I'll just leave this here:
In no particular order
-My gear
-My knowledge of game mechanics, including intricacies many people have no idea even exist
-My job spread
-My ability to 2box efficiently with any combination of jobs
-My leadership/organizational skills
-My ability to use jobs other than BLU when they're better(always)
Careful there Chojja, Apollyon SW is hard with 7.
I don't deny that I think I'm a great player. I say it outright often enough, don't see how it's in any way relevant though. People compare Richardd to Ruke, act as if he's something great, I just don't see it. He had decent reaction time and average gear, yippee. Something about the way he talks just sets me off, it's like he's bragging without bragging ... when he doesn't even have anything to brag about.
I'm not saying he isn't a good/great player, but you guys talk about him as if he was some sort of god at ninja or in some way defined the job.. I really don't see it. All I'm getting from your posts is that he was good at it.. but the same could be said of hundreds and hundreds of people at misc jobs and I don't see Uryuu sucking them off at the streetcorner.
Right. Just because you think someone is not as great as you it qualifies as kissing ass, when you have people like Despain and Ending who are so far up your ass they could lick the back of your eyeballs. But they're ok because it's you, right?
Infallible logic there, scooter.
