And by that point you've killed basically everything anyway, none of the absolute best stuff made out of the rare drops are required.

Chances are, you'll do some grinding. Just going straight through, you generally don't get enough mats to make much of anything.
Be prepared to see the same enemy multiple times no matter what you do.

yeah, pretty much
you can make shit from random things you can pick up, it just won't be the best or most useful stuff but it does the job

It doesn't really becoming grinding until your 5th or so kill. At that point you have probably mastered the monster. Thinking about switching to gunner for Elite Quests because it sounds boring to fight these monsters again.
