Some scientists think that even if the oil gets in the loop current it won't likely make it all the way out to the Atlantic because bacteria will basically eat the oil before it can reach that far.

...this could potentially suck too tho because all that bacteria in the area could lead to anoxia (too little oxygen in the water), which would be harmful to marine life.
