You're scored based on how well you do the actions... think of the main dancer in the middle of the screen like the inputs appearing in Rock Band/Guitar Hero. The little images at the side of the screen give nowhere near enough information to be able to just use those and show you on the screen. There's not really any other way they could do it.

Hmm.. if so then this makes me want to believe that in the background that is hidden and unseeable, is a blob that represents you, much like that that Fitness portion of the trailer, and lining up with the character on the screen with your blob for the movements, judges the score with how precise you are for following what is displayed.

It's not hidden, you can see it at the side of the screen... right next to the boxes that show you each move at the right was a small yellow box showing your movements.

you might be right, I think a lot of the 3DS's buzz is going to be influenced on how good the 3D is and how well it's picked up on camera. If it's something that consumers can't get impressed by without stereoscopic vision (i mean if it can't be recorded by a single camera lens and shown over tv/internet) then it might be kind of a tough sell for nintendo, no matter how awesome it is.
