    I don't like fraps

I have a legit version of fraps (yes, I paid for that piece of garbage years ago).

I've never even had a PC strong enough to record without major lag. So my question is, what can I use to replace it? I'm assuming when I get my new graphic card I will be able to run it probably flawlessly, but file size is still going to be 36go for a 3 min video. So preferably something with small file size. I can pay for it... but not more than 20$

what's wrong with fraps? I've used it for years without any problems. About the only legit complaint I've heard is that it doesn't play well with SLI'd video cards, but that was a few versions ago.

It doesn't compress the video at all, and tends to lag a lot in all my experience with it.

fraps isn't a video compression application. Video capture/compression in the same pass would also perform like shit.

Fraps is great for me. It doesn't make me lag much on my shitty Vista laptop but I also don't have the ffxi settings very high either.

I love that they give lifetime updates too if you pay(one of the only reasons I paid for it).

Make sure whatever game and Fraps recording are on different HDDs. Should help reduce lag by quite a bit.

Could be i have a bad copy of something but when i tried to record myself on FFXI it was around 10fps? I haven't played with it much because thats not why i got it, but is there an option to up the FPS for this program?

Edit: Even after playing with the setting and making it 80FPS and uncompressed video codec, it still sucks for me on anything that moves fast.

How fast a vid capture program can write to your disk has a lot to do with this. If the disk isn't churning, is on a fast bus and isn't on the same physical volume as the other programs running on your machine and it's still performing like crap try assigning fraps to a different CPU core than the ones running your game.

And make absolutely sure you're running the very latest version of fraps, especially if you're running a 64-bit OS.

I think you need to change your thread title to I hate my slow ass computer. Fraps does what its suppose to, you're just bashing it cause you don't have the requirements for it... /goodjob

I'm bashing cause I've had to use tech support once, and it was total CRAP. I also even mentioned back then my PC wasn't able to run it. You're the one swimming in fail.

On topic, so if I install a game on a HDD and put fraps on that same drive, but I redirect video saves to another HDD, it should speed up the process, or am I getting this wrong?

No i was talking about Camstudio, not fraps because someone suggested it as an alternative to fraps. I have never had a problem with fraps at all, SS HD and when i do use fraps normall have FFXI on core 1 & 3, Fraps on 2& 4 lol.

Whatever your video editing software should have lots of choices for compression. Personally i used adobe premier. And solid state prices most likely will not go down till they are hitting the 100GB mark stock on PC's. I LOVE mine on the laptop, windows boots in about 35 to 45 second and ready to go.

This is exactly what you should do.

I need like a 140-160GB SSD but thats like $500-700 ;/ need to wait for it to go down more!

I'm using a NCQ 500GB sata2 as my fraps drive, and when recording only lose like 10-20fps (from 60-80fps) recording, wonder if ssd would make that drop near nonexistent...
