As a small developer, you're not getting $100 and then 20% of what I make in an app. market place. It sounds cool, but not for me as a dev. or at least from what I've seen in the video thus far.

The same rule applies for Apple.

I also think Apple has a bit more of a market place for smaller developers. More kids have iPhones/etc so its easier to make fun applications as to where Google's apps are more business oriented.

Google's rates are actually pretty reasonable, especially considering the exposure you get for something like this. Sure, you can try selling your application on your own website, but unless you make a good name for yourself, it's not going to get the traffic you need to make any legitimate amount of money.
