I mean we have lots of other great stuff too but it's just generic shit that doesn't appeal to tourists (Good malls, local shops, food, bars, etc.) There's a few decent arcades also in the state somewhere (Eight on the Break was okay...not an impressive venue but a very impressive selection of games to be played. Something for everyone)

Yeah, not really looking into tourist-y areas since like I said, they'll be there mostly for work. So just looking into local foodie places and bars for dinners and whatnot. I don't think there'll be enough time to drive around a lot for most of the week, so can't go anywhere too far from Carteret.

Though, definitely intrigued about Wawa now. Think the closest one is aboout 10 miles away. :T Not too bad.

Pick up a Weird NJ book and go find some trouble. And Wawa. Always Wawa. North and South Jersey are pretty different places. I don't know much of anything in North Jersey that hasn't been mentioned.

in highschool i was on the track team and ran to south street sea port and back everyday, so i ran right by the fish markets. i smelled that fishy shit everyday. jersey wasn't fish-smelling.

every now and then a bunch of us would go to newport and catch a movie / shop and shit after school. we'd hop the path train and be there in 15minutes. as soon as we'd get to jersey, the air would just have this dank garbage-like smell.

new york city doesn't smell like a bed of roses; its to be expected for a city so large. but how or why newport would smell so odd always confused me.

the times i've been to fort lee, englewood, palisades areas were fine though. i just vividly remember newport having heavy shitty air. also jersey city. it was like a giant armpit or something. is there extra humidity in jersey?

Cannot be stated enough; unfortunately, most of the posters from NJ here are from South Jersey or NYC, and neither particularly enjoy North Jersey all that much.

Seriously, just go to NY or head to the shore. I've been living in north NJ for a little more then a year now and lived the rest of my life in central Jersey. We go to the shore, or go to NY. That is pretty much it lol. Boardwalk fries are pretty amazing, and I hear we are going to have some nice 80 degree weather soon so the beach might be a cool place to relax.

Jersey city is one of the biggest shitholes in jersey, just like any other state/area is bound to have. Then again i might be spoiled since bergen county is like "the" nice area of jersey, safe towns, low crime, stuff to do etc.

To reiterate, go to the fucking Diners in New Jersey. I can't name any specific ones but one thing I actually like about NJ over NYC is the availability of old school diners with old school prices. The Grease trucks in Rutgers are also worth a visit if you are nearby(I wouldn't drive out of my way for them), only one whose name I remember is the R-U-Hungry truck(was on Man v Food so a nice reminder) cause they have several different weird sandwich combos but they are all pretty delicious.

Diners are good, I can't reccomend those enough. Harold's is also an amazing restaurant, kind of pricey but huge portions.

I lived at Rutgers for four years for college, and wow, I can't believe I didn't reccomend the grease trucks to you. They're all grouped together in one spot so you don't have to go out of your way for them, and they sell Fat Sandwiches. True to their name, they are without a doubt the most gluttonous (yet delicious) food you'll eat. Sandwiches are about 2000 Calories apiece, but they're oh so worth it, only cost $5.50, and are open pretty late if I recall, although I'm not sure if they shorten their hours in the summer. Every pizza place in New Brunswick sells them, though. If I know my geography, Carteret is about half an hour from New Brunswick, so you really have no excuse not to go there and have one.

It's a pretty awkward state. Shitload of people, but absolutely nothing to fucking do. North Jersey is pretty much hit or miss depending on where you go.

Essex County (Newark, East Orange, Irvington) are walking death-traps and are usually avoided during the nighttime and along with Camden give NJ a really shitty name.

Hit up Union City/Jersey City (JC is a shithole though, but some areas are quiet) if you wanna eat banging Hispanic food and oogle at hot bitches, but depending where you're at, its probably not worth the trip.

Hit up NY, it's about 10-15 minutes away.

OH OH OH, I just remembered. If you're in north jersey, go to Hirams. They have the best hotdogs, and apparently really good chilli-cheese dogs (I wouldn't know, I don't like chili) It's like the last hotdog road-stand-house ish place there is that I'm aware of. realllly good hotdogs, and I don't know of another place like it. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?oe...62601853238083

I'm in North Jersey and really, there's not much to see here. Bergen county is a very expensive place to live, the median home value is around $800,000. Most people living up here are well-off, older generation people that do not want things like clubs, sports bars, or other things that someone in their 20s would consider "interesting" nearby. There's a couple very large malls in the area (Garden State Plaza on route 17, Palisades Center in nearby West Nyack NY) that have decent bars and hang-out spots but that's pretty much it. There are some very nice upscale restaurants, but again, nothing I'd consider "must-see". Grease trucks are pretty much our claim to fame, which is kind of sad. They're still awesome sandwiches, though.

Like people have suggested.. go to NYC. Much, much more to see there and it's a short bus or train ride away.
