It's probably a given that if wealth concentration in America is a reality, then that wealth concentration probably has a very racial connotation. For example, considering how polarized the distribution of race is in the prison system, i can probably get the impression that there is some nasty racial polarization in regards to wealth as well.
I can agree with you there, and would definitely make sense.
What's kinda nice about the graph as well isn't even the "whites vs. blacks" point they are making. But just the gap in general.
Of course many of us have been saying about how the middle class is going away at it's become more and more the "rich vs. the poor". The graph definitely shows this trend being the case. At a somewhat alarming rate no less.
I would actually like to see us focusing on closing the gap overall vs. focusing on minorities only. This is not to say minorities don't need help, as they are hurting way more, and their gap between the white middle class is starting to widen as well.
I don't know what needs to be done (if anything) on the race side. I would actually like to see a comparison of the rates whits vs. blacks paid on being a first time home buyer in 1984 vs. today, as I would imagine that make this is one of the biggest causes of debt in minorities that would go back to 1984, and might be a major factor in all this.
Also very curious that the middle class blacks stayed the same all the way up till 2003. What funding/changes might have caused this? (I'm bad with dates, and things I tend to think happened in two thousand something often happened in like 1989 lol.)
White ex-cons are more likely to be hired than spotless blacks? Wow. Please don't tell me that's actually true. Please.
I think the study is kind of pointless. Everyone is pretty fucked right now, white, black, or w/e. A study saying "Oh well blacks are a little more fucked in certain areas then whites" doesnt mean anything to me. Since my home town is pretty much 90% white and utterly poor with a jobless rate of 23%. Only profession to get into here is running a methlab or joining up with the cops to hunt down methlabs. can't wait to get the fuck out.

Its not. Ask a white guy and he'll say blacks get jobs more due to equal opportunity. Ask a black guy and he'll say white ppl get more jobs because of connections or race.
Holy fuck general is retarded lately
More retarded than usual I mean
Holy shit you just described my area perfectly. Poorest county in the state, token black guy per town, 1/5 unemployed, and meth/foodstamps our biggest economy.
So black people have it hard in areas? Cool bro, my hometown has been perpetually reliving TGD and the Dustbowl era since the '70s. Shit's so cash.
The study (iasp.brandeis.edu) followed white and black families over the 23 years from 1984 to 2007 and found that for families with similar incomes, white wealth went up and black wealth went down.
Id like to see more info about this then. Did the families all have the same job or the same income? did the black families push for promotions or did they choose to stay at their current position in the workplace? Were their children, assuming they received the same education, applying for the same jobs, with the exact same grades from the same colleges? Did they both try as hard for their income change?
If you read the OP, there were a few instances where they related similar income individuals and families to their opportunity/wealth gaps. I don't have time to delve into the actual study and it's procedures, however. I'm taking it that results from the OP are directly connected to the research.
