Ok so we know there are people interested in seeing BGwiki try again with FFXIV. However, in order for this to be any kind of success we need someone willing to be in charge of it that can meet the requirements needed. So if you feel you would be a good candidate and meet the requirements please feel free to apply.
REQUIREMENTS:
Needs to know MediaWiki coding: You job is not only overseeing the site, but to be the primary editor on it. This is a requirement we will not bend on. Staff members will be there to help lessen the load, but you are going to be the overall go-to guy/gal. You can't expect staff members to do what you don't know how to do.
People person: You are not only going to be dealing with your staff and contributors, but with the BG admin staff as well. There maybe things the administration staff wants changed/removed/added etc. While you are in charge of the site, it is still the administration's site. This does not mean you will have no control, but if you feel you do not/will not be able to get along with the administration at BG, then don't bother apply as you won't be worth the headache
Be able to check the site on a daily basis: Yes, this is a requirement. We really need someone focused that will make sure at least one part of their day is spent checking what's being changed to the site. Especially during the beginning period, were info is going to be exploding onto the site and will be changing constantly as the game changes/we learn new things. We need someone who ll show their dedication to the site and ability to get it ready.
Be in it for the long haul: I can't stress this enough. The obvious danger to creating a staff before the game is out, is that many will try the game and get bored and stop playing. This means losing interest in the site. Now, obviously you can't predict the future on whether you will enjoy the game. But we ask that you be ready to make the effort to keep up with the wiki even if the game doesn't meet your expectations for at least the initial rush (up to 6 months into the game at least) and/or until we can get a suitable replacement for you.
On the flip side, be prepared that if you love the game, that doesn't distract you too much from putting the controller down and taking a look/contributing to the site.
What you can expect:
After we choose the main editor/admin we will begin making the initial staff. For the most part you will be in charge of choosing who you want on the project. BG staff may make suggestions, but on certain occasions may insist on certain people to either a) not be a part of the staff, or b) be a part. Again, though, most of the final choices will be yours considering these are the people you will be working closely with.
At the start there will be mostly two categories of staff. Information staff and coder staff. Before the games goes live the wiki is going to be under pw protected. We need the help of testers to give us the info and people who can put that info onto the wiki. Of course, some staff members may be able to do both, but it won't be a requirement.
Once we get the full staff together we will have a private forum setup for you guys to discuss/put up info before being put onto the wiki. We also will be giving you the password to the wiki and you'll be able to get started right away putting up the info as we get from the alpha/official site. BG staff will have access to both the forum and the site regardless of their participation so they can monitor the activity.
NOTE: If it comes to our attention that you or any staff member (be it BG or Wiki staff) have given out your pw to non-staff members, you will be removed from the team immediately.
Wiki itself: We already have the format from BGwiki FFXI that can be used for the FFXIV wiki. At the start it's best to keep that format while sorting out the info we're getting. There is some discussion on changing the layout later on, and it will be discussed with you at a later period.
Your application:
If you are interested in being the main admin/editor for the wiki and feel you can handle all the above then pm an application to myself, Silverbreese, or Vandole. All apps will be posted in the mod section for review. Your application should include:
Your website/wiki skills/knowledge
Links to sites you currently run/code where applicable
Why you want to be the head administrator/editor
What do you think you can bring to the wiki, and why should we pick you
Any references you can give involving your leadership/people skills
Anything else you feel we should know.
