Phantasy Star Portable 2 — the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Phantasy Star Portable — has now been announced for the Playstation Portable, and will be coming to North America and Europe in the Fall of 2010!

Taking place three years after the end of the story missions that occur during Phantasy Star Universe, the denizens of the Gurhal System have dispatched the menace of the SEED — but the war effort has cost them, and with dwindling resources the game’s heroes will travel & take on entirely new challenges.

The game allows up to four players to connect online via Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure modes, allowing people to play with their friends wherever they are. Fans of old school Phantasy Star can also rejoice — the game features the return of Battle and Challenge missions, adapted from the original Phantasy Star Online. These multiplayer options combine with an epic single player experience and story missions which allow for extensive and advanced character customization and exploration.

In the true spirit of Phantasy Star, there really is a whole universe of things to explore: Phantasy Star Portable 2 features double the amount of content from previous games, with all new characters (and some returning favorites), over 100 missions, more than 170 enemies and all-new bosses, and more than 2,000 weapons and items. Combat has been enhanced as well, with familiar action-style combat of the Phantasy Star series augmented with all new features and abilities.

I played the demo of the first on the psp recently. Even though it plays exactly like PSU I enjoyed it more.

About time. Will actually play this one since they added online. It was a cunt to get the first one working on Xlink Kai so I never played it much. I hope Battle mode is as broken as PSO, nothing like one shotting everyone as a Force.

It always disappointed me that these games were SO much better than the actual online versions.
Either way, I'm excited they finally announced this. I've been waiting for the english version for awhile.

Honestly cant wait, the first one while I liked it more than PSU wasn't amazing. I did enjoy PSZ which I've heard they took a lot from when making PSP2. Still <3 Challange and Online Modes.

Question, will this be playable on the newer PSP's so that you can hook it up to a HDtv to play? I seriously can't stand long sessions on the PSP due to the small screen.

I don't recall any game being restricted to a specific PSP model, so I'd imagine you can play it on any PSP you'd like.

If you have custom firmware you can hook it up to your PC and play on your monitor.

Gotta say, I wasn't really that impressed with the first one, least of all the voice acting (yeah yeah, I know, voice acting doesn't matter etc, IT WAS JUST SO FUCKING BAD).

Good old Phantasy Star. I loved PSO, hated PSU with passion. A shame I don't have a PSP or I'd get this and owns hit with it D:

Also like that the main layout (Stats and what not) seems the same as PSO. I think they just realize PSU was massive fail.

Infrastructure support is the only reason I'm grabbing this. (CFW, of course)
I'm not a big Phantasy Star fan (in fact, I never really thought any of the games were particularly good, PSP1 being my favorite so far). I don't own a PS3 so ad hoc party is out of the question and xlink kai was such a pain with this game.

I think I might be able to have some fun with this online for a week or so. Should be a half-decent time waster.

I highly doubt it. Usually special things like that don't carry over, at least for Phantasy Star games. Maybe after a while they would.

Sweet! Finished the first one and it was pretty fun. Been playing this one in Japanese and its a lot better than the first with the introduction of shields and whatnot. I cant wait for this to come out!
