I'd stand up for a pregnant woman. There are several reasons why it makes sense. However, fuck standing up for anyone just because they're of the opposite gender or good looking. Bitches can stand.

I would most likely get up. I try not to sit in the front of the bus though because of that rule, don't like getting up once I sit down and in my zone w/my ipod! I think its funny though how people are saying they would get mad if someone didn't move... god forbid if a guy doesn't bend over for women all the time. I like doors being open for me too.

Doesn't have to be a man who moves. I'm a woman and I would move for a pregnant woman.

Nah I just meant moving for women in general, someone said it earlier. I would move if they were pregnant though.

I can't quite get my head around and will have to think on it a bit.
Over population and poor people having too many kids can contribute to a lot of people having issues with pregnant women, but another part of it, at least for me, is the sense of entitlement from some pregnant women. You are presumably an adult, of sound mind and body, and you made a choice to get pregnant/stay pregnant. Why is it the responsibility of anyone else to take care of you?

I'm all for being nice, and I open doors and that sort of thing for people all the time, guys, girls, the elderly, whatever, but a person being pregnant does not mean they should automatically receive special treatment, which a seemingly large number of them expect.

Granted she shouldn't expect people to part like the Red Sea for her because of her condition, I think the level of internet courage in this thread is even more hilarious than her indignation at the situation.

That said whenever I take public transportation like a subway or trolley I rarely take a seat even if there are open ones because I'd rather leave it open for someone that may actually need it.

Edit: Yeah, I don't give a fuck if she got "knocked up" or not, if you're in a worse position than me (pregnant, broken something, etc.), a woman, old, or quadriplegic, you're getting my fucking seat.
This. Although I get confused as to what to do when more than one elderly person/disabled/pregnant woman gets on lol

This bitch needs to get over herself, she got herself pregnant and knew she'd be riding the bus/train/whatever. Its not like she has been asking people to move and they are refusing, she is getting all upset over having to ask which is just laughable.

This is a classic case of some princess getting upset because people don't get what she wants telepathically or bother to work it out via body language or stares, ask first then get your panties in a twist if you don't like the response.

When the population of the world drops back down to somewhere around 4 billion I'll stop trying to find a scientist to reanimate Pope Leo X and Hitler together as Hitler X: The Depopulator.

And then I'll also stop bitching about Pregnancy-reserved parking spaces.

I don't know how many other women have commented within this thread, if any. I didn't entirely pay attention to the user names as I read through.

Regardless, I'm on the anti-entitlement boat. If the bus were to get in an accident so severe as to endanger the woman's unborn child, it's doubtful being in a hard metal and plastic seat without a belt will provide any more protection. Usually, the handicapped/elderly section faces an open, unprotected isle anyway, providing even less safeguard against injury. That said, public transportation accidents are practically non-existent compared to full size automobile crashes. So, no. The poor excuse of endangering the woman won't fly.

What I don't agree with, however, is the anti-bus sentiment. Reliance on public transportation doesn't guarantee financial destitution. While many of a bus's occupants may be impoverished, others may live in a residence without a driveway or other form of parking, may live alone and only rent a car when it's needed, and so on, so forth. In plenty of residential and commercial areas alike, walking, biking, carpooling, and public transit are perfectly acceptable.

In the end, though, would I get up for such a woman myself? Most of the time, I don't sit down on the bus even if there's tons of seats available. I spend enough time sitting on my ass, so I can stand up for a while. If I'm tired, I'll consider taking a seat justified, and will do it. At that point, I'm not getting up.

I don't think the worry is about catastrophic type accidents. A 6-9 month pregnant woman is very unbalanced due to the massive ball of weight on her stomach. Standing on a swaying bus that suddenly stops could easily knock her to the ground, possibly severely hurting her or her baby. Although it is also possible that there will be absolutely no harm done them, why take that risk simply because an able-bodied person is too lazy to stand?

Here in Ottawa, the busses have reserved seating at the front with signs indicating that they're for the elderly, disabled, and the pregnant. I'm somewhat appalled that it isn't standard practice for public transit elsewhere.

If you are implying that the woman is either mentally retarded or physically feeble, I suppose this could be a problem. Considering that they're capable of writing an article and are evidently a long-time patron of public transportation, however, I assume they know how to maintain balance, and handle themselves on a bus.

Canadians seem to have common sense shit figured out well before their southern cousins. I think there may be a logic filter at the border that retains more wisdom for you guys and leaves us high and dry

As much as I ride public transportation, I'm rarely in a situation where I need to give up my seat. However I"ve had completely shitty days or been exhausted and gave up my seat without hesitation for people because I'm a pretty empathetic person. I think some people's mindset in this thread is kinda shitty but I've already accepted a long time ago that people think different than I do.

The only time I've been pissed at pregnant women is the one time I got on the train and 3 women were on the same train with big-assed strollers and taking up room that could fit people and making it almost impossible for people to get in or out. People like that who are blatantly inconsiderate are the ones who get my contempt but that's more the exception than the rule as far as my experiences have been.

As far as the whole overpopulation rant is concerned...

    lol

About a year ago i would of stood up and given any old/preggers/etc my spot without worrying.

Today i wouldn't bother for the following reasons.

Was going to the gym and came to the door at the same time as two old ladys, figured i would be nice and open the door and hold it for them. They told me if i had time to go to the gym to get my ass oversea's and fight for america. Then started bitching about how young kids theses days have no respect and lazy fucks.

Was at a store when i seen a lady picking up one of those you put it together home theater sets to put in her cart. She didn't look heavy, legs and arms skinny but she had a belly so i figured she had a child otw.... i was wrong.... the complex array of cuss words out of her mouth left me lite headed.

I was on a bus...... all seats are full........ a pregnant female gets on...... know where this is going? ...... i'm at the front, i watch her go all the way to the back looking for a seat. I figured i would be nice and offered my seat to her (6 months i guessed). The woman then started her thanks by telling me to sit my ass down. From what i got from her, she was pregnant not a retarded cripple. She yelled this shit which made many of the other people on the bus think i was a jack ass that insulted her.

To really answer your question, i don't do shit for any female but my GF because they are all fucking crazy.

but another part of it, at least for me, is the sense of entitlement from some pregnant women.
I think other people have hit on it too, but I think people are reacting more to what they perceive as a sense of entitlement than anything else.

Maybe there's also the fact that a few people on the bus would, but they're waiting and thinking "maybe someone else will do it"

.. Also wow, what the hell, Yabby.
