have you ever thought that looking in on giving yourself all those benefits of marriage through other means (and the rights guaranteed to a married couple are 1,148 iirc at the federal level), doing the footwork if figuring it all out, doing all the paperwork, researching every single thing - is not at all worth it just to stick it to the man over marriage being a social construct?

This is honestly would you rather:
Legally declare your love for someone and sign a few pieces of paper for ten minutes
    or
Spend hours and hours and hours and hours doing everything the hard way for no reason other than a false sense of superiority.

I hope you write everything by hand bro, cuz computers can stop working half way through your thesis. YOU DONT NEED COMPUTERS!!!!!!!!!

Them:"If I get injured I want them to be able to make choices for me"
Me: Power of Attorney...read about it. Unlike a marriage you can also limit it to only certain rights/situations.

    Them: "Share health insurance!"
Me: "Reality is, many providers allow you to specify a significant other"

    Them: "Automatic joint custody!"
Me: "You can assign joint custody with a custody agreement..."
At this point Darus you are so engrossed in your own viewpoint that again you are not discussing it or even arguing anymore, you completely ignore valid points. This has already been brought up and one of the major benefits of legal marriage is that it makes everything EASIER.

There are so many different benefits legally that marriage covers them all at once. I don't want to have to fill out another form and explain things again every time I go out to do something with my significant other.

I don't want to have to go through all the extra paper work just to buy a house, set up power of attorney, fight with the insurance company (mine only allows you to share insurance with spouses as well), among many other things that you would have to do by hand that are automatically done for you if you are legally married. I am not saying this is why I got married BUT it is a valid response to what you are saying that you are completely ignoring.

Not to mention the fact that many of those things that you talk about require hiring a lawyer and paying them decent money to fill out the paperwork and file it for you. And then I ask you if you are willing to go through all the trouble for all those individual things why not go for legal marriage? All you are doing is piecing together the essence of a legal marriage anyway. All of those things that you mention as an alternative to legal marriage can be just as difficult to get around or cancel if you decide to "divorce" your significant other so my question would be why? Why go through so much extra work and extra trouble to circumvent legal marriage only to recreate it in a round about way and then have the same burdens and connections you would anyway from legal marriage?

Nice try, far from the money though.

If you want to play in the pro leagues archi you're going to have to do better, this isn't the first time I've had to inform you about how weak and obvious your attacks are.

I imagine a lot of shit is funny when you're a moron, you're trying to point out a disconnect where this is none, you try to do this a lot, and it often blows up in your face.

Seriously, get this mickey mouse league shit out of here.
Get off my dick - I thought you were the one complaining earlier about how nasty your parents divorce was before, haven't read this thread in about 3 days.

Anyway, you explained that the marriage tax benefits were replaceable.

How's that again? Single parents? I thought we were talking about marriage - you don't have to have kids to get married. Step up, pro-league, spell it out for us in the minors.

You can have candy, but you have to walk to the store.

You can have this candy right here, but it is also filled with worms.

What kind of choice is that?

    lol analogies.

I never said it wasn't easier, but life-long relationships isn't on my list of things I "should take the easy way" on.

You people and your lawyers, try being educated.

You state that properly drawn up pre-nups (which can eliminate most of your financial marriage problems) aren't legally enforceable. Back up that statement and then we can continue.

A contract cannot supersede a law, just in the way I'm still liable for your murder even if we draft a contract saying you absolve me of liability for it.

Maybe you should go back and read, "then we can continue" after we discuss my parents divorce that I ranted about in this thread for the last 3 days of this 2 day old thread.

I fully encourage people to take the law, especially shit like this, into their own hands.

Playing it off like I pulled a "RL" card is disingenuous at best.

A prenup is an acknowledgment that you give up the rights that you are defining. I don't understand your murder correlation at all, as it makes no sense.

Because those rights are defined in state/federal laws, you can't actually give them up, i.e. the contract cannot supersede the law.

Pre-nups are more of a gentlemens agreement, they're like EULAS for marriage, unenforceable.
