Mass Effect (202X)

The only (well, one of the only) issue that's going to piss me off about this is that Mass Effect is just RIPE for the ol' Hollywood "screw up a perfectly good movie by focusing on a cheesy love affair between two of the cast instead of the greater threat the cast faces".

I mean its practically written into the script already.

If they do that they would have to introduce a new character so as not to piss-off everyone that didn't choose the romantic interest in the game that they did for the movie.


P.S. I can't wait to see a real-life Jack.

EDIT: I wonder if Jak from Chronicles of Riddick is still young enough. A bald, tatted her would be perfect.

The only way this movie will work is if it is NOT about Shepard and the other people in the game. People are too emotionally invested with their own interpretations of those characters that it will not be a good movie for everyone. Granted everyone that will go see the movie probably will not have played the game. I'd rather see a story set in the Mass Effect universe that showcases the Tech and cultures. It could be about a different Spectre for that matter. Or it could be about how the humans found citadel or something. But I don't want to see a movie that Ruins Shepard and his/her crew.

I would go with a storyline based around Grissom/Anderson and the First Contact War between Earth and the Turians. It's a well known incident for fans of the game but there is really very little info about it that's been covered so far in either the games or the books(not sure if they did anything on it in the comics though).

also, i never really understood why people go back and play games they've beaten again...but i might have to do it with the ME series prior to the March release of ME3. The desire to get back to the ME Universe is too strong...

I first played ME on a borrowed 360. I first played ME2 on PS3. I then re-played ME on PC. I then re-played ME on PC making all the right choices and character skin. I then re-played ME2 on PC. This is pretty much my favorite gaming series. But, I will still wait for a sale to get ME3 on steam that will continue my saves...

I'd rather an in-universe story than a retelling of game events.

This... would much rather see one of the countless side-stories or back-stories mentioned in the games adapted. The Mass Effect universe is full of interesting characters and events, which would be a lot harder to screw up on than just retelling the main story without any of the choices.

The only way this'll be any good is if they give Sovereign more dialog, because it had the coolest voice in the history of anything.

Legendary Entertainment is moving ahead with its silver screen adaptation of the Mass Effect series by hiring new screenwriter Morgan Davis Foehl, Variety has reported.

Curiously, Foehl hasn't written a screenplay that's been made into a finished movie, though his script for a a thriller entitled Whatever Gets You Through the Night made Hollywood's 2009 Black List, which highlights the best unproduced scripts circulating around.

Since that never saw the light of day, he's mostly known for his credits as co-editor on Adam Sandler vehicles I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Click.

Producers took a shine to Foehl's take on the project as he's a fan of the sci-fi series and he's penned action pics with a "strong espionage bent" such as Crosshair, an adaptation of the Top Cow comic book that Mandeville is developing for Summit

Previously, the Mass Effect script was penned by Mark Protosevich who wrote the screenplays for Thor and I Am Legend. Based on the latter being excellent until its incredibly stupid conclusion, it seems like he'd be perfect for a Mass Effect movie (although I'm biased, as my Shepard happens to resemble I am Legend star Will Smith).

The Mass Effect movie is being produced by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Ari Arad, and his father, Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad, who's also working on the Metal Gear Solid movie when he's not making ridiculous speeches about Pac-Man.

Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson will serve as the film's executive producer along BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.

Mixed feelings tbh. If it's done right it could be absolutely fantastic. If it's shit I can easily see them turning it into the Resident Evil movie series and churn out two lackluster sequels.
