So um, would you mind sharing your findings? >.> Or anyone else, really.
I've tried multiple things, started off with a terrible build that could barely break 15 fps, the initial cutscene was terrible, and the fps didnt recover once i had control in that first battle
Got another build, skipped cutscene, had around 20ish fps during that first battle, but it was still sluggish.

What's your specs, and what version of dolphin have you been using?
Looking over at the dolphin wiki, i see no mention of specific settings, other than dsp lle, so assuming they don't cause problems, you'll want use the graphics hacks: ignore format changes, disable EFB copies, and disable external frame buffer. Everything under other should be off, since they rarely do anything but cause problems.
In the main config, obviously enable dual core, idle skipping, and use the JIT recompiler. For audio, i know there's an HLE patch for this game, but it doesn't merge to the latest revision. You're most likely better off using the latest revision with dsp lle than an older build using HLE, since the latest builds are a lot faster than older ones, but i can't be sure, so you may wish to test that. Or you could just use HLE and ignore the problems (i have no idea how bad they are).
If you want, i could look into getting the HLE audio patch to work with the latest revision and compile that for you, if it's not too much work, but i'm not promising anything.
edit: looks like the HLE patch was kept up to date. Try these (current as of 3.0-593):

hmm, maybe my computer is just too old and shitty?
E8500 dual core 3.16GHz
8gb ram
Radeon HD 4870
I got it to run "OK", but it's laggy on cutscenes (15~20 fps) and choppy during battles (17~21-22ish or so fsp) but it's really not playable, at least for me, anyway. (I've tried both unpatched and 30fps patched, and tried switching between the two dsp drivers)
What I'm thinking may be a better solution, would be to run it on my laptop and just output it to my tv? i7 2675QM (2.2GHz), 6gb ram, radeon 6750M
Yeah, your cpu is probably holding you back. Xenoblade is pretty demanding. I'd guess your laptop is probably going to be about the same, or worse.
You may want to try openCL (under hacks in graphics config), since you've got a decent gpu but not so great cpu.
Is this game worth buying a Wii just for it?
up to you really
Eh, why would it be worse on the laptop? Unless the emulator isn't really built to use a quad core effectively. I tried the opencl, didnt do much, meh. Need to upgrade my computer.
Also, I did try it out on my laptop. I skipped the cutscene, but the first battle was really smooth, a little bit of hiccuping but I guess it's normal D: so I'll just connect this to my tv and play it that way, I guess
edit: yup, laptop working perfectly.... it's just, heating my laptop up really nicely >_>
It generally uses 1-2 cores. You can split DSP to a third thread, but only with LLE, which is a lot slower than HLE, and doing this can often be slower than not for some reason. You can also use openMP to split texture decoding to 2 threads, but this also does not work well, and is sometimes slower.
Well, my laptop is playing it flawlessly :/
.... For serious, Julian? My desktop specs are almost the same as yours (E8400 instead of E8500, but 6850 instead of 4870), and my laptop specs are damn near similar (AMD 3500M instead of an i7 at the same clock speed, same graphics card).Well, my laptop is playing it flawlessly
..And it looks like I still have Xenoblade on my hard drive for my PC.
Maybe it's just my graphic card that's too old? idk D:
I really need to upgrade my desktop, or just build a new one completely. I don't think I'll have the resources to do it until a few months from now, maybe half a year or even more. I could probably do something simpler like just upgrade the graphic card (and then just reuse that graphic card on the new computer.) I wanted to buy a new CPU a while back, but that would have required buying a new mobo, which would have made it even more expensive, and would have required putting everything apart which I really didn't feel like doing, and would rather avoid. (Cause at that point, I just feel like I may as well replace everything and build a new one, although I may still reuse some stuff that's still good, like the psu, the case(this one may also be outdated tho), hdds, ram, etc)
But, I can say for sure, that my laptop plays the game 95~97% smoothly (some hiccups, obviously, but these were the kinds I'd expect), whereas my computer would play around 80~85% or so, which just felt unplayable >_> Like, the initial cutscene was choppy and laggy as hell, the first battle was choppy, all of the audio & voice acting felt choppy, etc. I spent 2 hours or so messing with settings until I felt satisfies, but I never did. Put it on the laptop, was satisfied from the beginning, and only made a few tiny adjustments, and played for like half an hour without a single problem. :/ So you think the problem is probably the graphic card then?
Mind PMing me how you set it up? Or just taking a screenshot? Also curious about what you did as far as the controller and such. I can play it on the Wii and all..but hell, if I can run it through my laptop, there's the superior option.Maybe it's just my graphic card that's too old? idk D:

Your PC issues sound exactly like mine, but I was playing it (briefly) months ago. I remember the same issue with the movie.. for me, I just didn't have a PC controller, so it seemed more annoying.
MHTri was the game to buy a Wii for IMO. I found that out when I decided to buy it on a whim when it came out. Probably one of my all time favorite games, especially with friends online.
Xenoblade so far has proved to be one of the most engaging RPGs I've ever played. I love the story, the characters have a lot of personality, hell even the fetch/kill quests are fun enough to enjoy just going out and beating the piss out of something.
I agree with Burning. Its worth the money if you plan on getting even the few Nintendo titles / exclusive RPGs. Wii is still my favorite system despite typically getting more use out of PS3.
Wow I've beaten this game twice and never knew you could get 2 Gems by getting it over 200% (maybe to 300%?) Started at 130 with HP UP level 3 materials. Hit 200 + ??? more than it and got 2 Level IV HP Gems. Awesome.
So, I've got this game running pretty solid in Dolphin now (1080p, HD textures)... but I'm curious if anyone has some recommendations for command-binding to a PS3 controller (via MotionJoy). I was really hoping to get the right analog stick to control the camera on its own (FFXII), but the camera movement in this game requires holding C. Is there a way I can do this through MotionJoy or Dolphin? Perhaps a macro that holds C whenever I'm moving the right analog?
I can get used to my button layout otherwise, it's just that the camera pains me to no end... not to mention I want to invert the camera controls, but I am assuming that part can be done in-game.
Use classic controller. You can move the camera with the right stick.
Well, that was easier than I could have imagined. Thanks~
Last question: What is the best course of action when I get the "Communications with the Wii Remote have been interrupted." prompt? I didn't do anything other than set my controller down and walk away for a few minutes and nothing seems to tell the game that the controller is indeed there and awake.
