Hey guys, quick question. My buddy was tremendously into the other Zeno games, for the story. Should I suggest this game to him? It's kinda been off his radar since he's been traveling. From reading you guys seem to like it a lot, is there enough of a comparison between the new and the old to sugegst to him?
I don't think they're actually related in plot, only in some people on the design team? Though, I didn't play too far into it since I couldn't get the emulation to work in a satisfactory manner.
At the very least, this console generation has had a drought of good RPGs. Just get it if money isn't a problem.
You can always imply the ending with them setting up the nations of -gears after what happens.
Wiki stuffs.
Originally titled Monado: Beginning of the World, the game was retitled Xenoblade in January 2010 to honour Tetsuya Takahashi, "who poured his soul into making this and who has been working on the Xeno series"
I guess I misunderstood what you said initially.
If you're asking for my laptop settings, they're pretty much defaults, nothing special really. If you have any specific questions, just ask me again and I'll go check.
Anyway, the point of this post:
So I decided to go and overclock my cpu a little bit, I found out that it was actually underclocked, I bumped it up to the 333x9.5 it was supposed to be, ran pretty well, bumped it up to 366x9.5 now, and it's running almost as well as my laptop. Definitely smooth enough to actually play now, I think. I also finished my last real exam today (one lol exam tomorrow) so I'm ready for some fun.
Only issue is that if I alt tab out for ANYTHING (this might only be applicable for cutscenes, would need to double check) it seems to freeze up, lol.
Thanks hey for all of the suggestions!
So, I have mine running better than I would have expected with the amount of issues I've read about, with the exception of one or two issues:
• In the occasional noisy/intense event (like a colony being attacked by Mechons, or multiple-mob fights), I usually get some pretty wretched-sounding audio glitches, scratchy beeps and buzzes.
• Seemingly random, I get a complete game freeze, accompanied by the usual terrible screeching/buzzing noises.
What might be a step in the right direction to minimizing those bugs?
Also, game question: For the quests with the stopwatch icon, what exact action renders those quests dead? Like, how far can I go with the storyline quest, or how much exploring can I do before I can no longer go back and finish them?
Ugh. Played for like an hour, then it randomly crashed. I don't think I saved at all.
Again. I seem to get a crash every 30min-1h easily. I might just play it on my wii after all -.-
Enjoying the game, though. The voice acting is hilarious. It's not bad, it's just, I guess I find British people funny. lol
There needs to be a patch that cuts the battle character commentary frequency down by 90%.
It's definitely Reyn Time, but I'm getting these wretched crashes maybe once every couple hours... lord knows how much progress I lose every fucking time because it's just enough time for me to fall back out of the habit of saving often (like just now). I'm certain it's not my card(s) going out since reloading state immediately fixes it and this game is far less intensive than FFXIV and I run that just fine.

Well, I disabled the OpenCL Texture Decoder, and played for an hour with no crashes last night. Definitely not enough to "blame" that as the reason, but I'll continue tweaking every time I crash. It definitely seems to be improving.
You can find specific dolphin revisions for Xenoblade, it could be dependant on your computer, but I haven't had a single crash or issue since (though I never got crashes, I did get a weird audio glitch that was fixed). It could help.
I still crash every 30min~1h~2h or so :/ It's like, it just finds a spot where it'll hang, whatever voices were playing at that time go into infinite loop, and dolphin is completely unresponsive.
I just have to save a lot, and abuse the skip cutscene feature when I find myself replaying. Kinda annoying, but at least it's playable. Really enjoying the game so far.
Some times. More often though, issues get fixed. You are missing out on a lot by using such old builds. Of course there is such an issue, but it's only at one point so you can easily switch to an older version for that, then switch back. I'd strongly discourage anyone from using older versions. Assuming you mean EU release (you better not be using builds from when it was released in japan...), you are going back some 700 revisions. There is a ton of bug fixes, and speed ups in there. That is a terrible idea.
edit: and looking at that problem, i see no issue for it in the google code, and 373 is a memory card fix, and couldn't have possibly affected xenoblade, so who knows if that even happens. And searching the thread on the forums comes up with almost nothing, so i'm calling bullshit.
You can say their are tons of bug fixes, however I can also tell you (when I played through) I didn't have any of the crashes he is currently having. The only crashes I had were due to video card issues. There is obviously something wrong with A) The version he is currently using or B) His computer/Hardware. Seeing as he likely did not want to start replacing pieces of his computer I suggested changing versions.
Save states are also nice (when they work properly) that way if your game starts to stutter (which mine did with the faulty card) you can hit the load quicksave and recover some times.
