Why are they choosing to kill themselves rather than simply changing to avoid the harassment? I ask this because, probably mostly because it's being emphasized by media, i've noticed teenage suicides far too often lately.

Granted, changing something about yourself just because others don't like it is not exactly a healthy thing to do.

Hmm, I'm not a guy, but easy mistake I guess. I wouldn't consider myself a goth either, but I have it yelled at me often enough that I'd rather not be equated with a 12 y/o twilight fan/furry either. Maybe goths and punks in England are more sane than over there. Fuck knows.

Anyways, if you consider every subculture purile and masturbatory why do you spend time on an internet forum about games or whatever. Shouldn't you be doing whatever your incredibly average peers are doing, in the same clothes, probably while trying not to stand out too much?

Let's face it, as much as people like to joke, teenagers are full of out of control emotions. Hell, I'd be surprised many here can't understand that considering what kind of forum this is. I'll be the first to admit I am and was a nerd growing up. And I know what it's like being made fun of for being different.
granted we can say people who don't let it get to them are smarter/have more common sense/etc. But I don't think it's too surprising that some let their emotions get the better of them.

As for more kids commiting suicide I'd say either that has to do with overexposure on the internet. It's one thing to feel your school hates you, another to think the whole world hates you. Or we're just seeing more stories about them. I haven't checked statistics to know.
