something else i would suggest, is if the point is six or 8, or basically any even number, put money down on the hard way. for example, if the point is 4, its a harder number to throw then 6, with only 2 combinations making it and one being the hard way. This way, if 4 is thrown and it is hard, you'll get paid on your odds for the pass line, plus the hard 4, which in most casinos is 7:1. It also comes down to how much money you are playing with. Also, dont feel intimidated by the board or other players, most people that play craps are usually helpful, and so are the dealers. Because with craps, the fun part is when one person wins, most of the time the entire table wins, and a fun table will go nuts.

I personally like betting the hard way to go with the point (If the point is 4, 6, 8, or 10). Just keep in mind, they are bad bets.

In case you don't know how hard ways work, they are NOT one roll bets. They will stay out there until that number is rolled (hard or soft) or until a 7 is rolled. If the number is rolled soft (a soft 8 would be 5 and 3 or 6 and 2), the bet is a loser. But, if the roll is a 5, you will not lose your hard way bet.

Only thing I would add is to not be afraid to ask the dealers at the table questions if you are unsure about anything. It's their job to help you because the more you know, the more comfortable you will feel dumping money into the table.

Also, if you happen to have a handful of $1 chips, make some bets on hardways/single rolls for the dealers as a tip. Adds to the fun and they'll appreciate it even if they lose.

If you go to a casino play Blackjack only, play in small doses, and don't win too much fucking money. You don't need to "count cards" to actually increase your odds in BJ at all. Sure you need to pay attention and be observant and most importantly to understand the game / basic odds but you don't need to be some MIT student or Rainman.

Choice between games where you have 0 chance to ever, ever, ever, ever give yourself even a microscopically larger chance to not just throw money out the window or a game where you actually have some say in what happens.

Tough choice.

I love craps and play it a lot.

First, start off with the pass line and full odds. It's the best bet in the casino.

Don't pass with laying full odds is better odds, although it won't make you popular at the table.

On a standard 3-4-5X table, pass line taking full odds has a house edge of .0374% (which is very very low), but for don't pass it's even lower at .0273%.

I usually play Don't pass, laying odds, except for when I'm rolling (because I don't want to be -that- big of a dick.)

Craps rules because if you play conservatively (by not placing sucker bets) you can stay at a table for an incredibly long time and it's a very social fun game. It's just a little intimidating to get started.

If you're female, I'd wager that conservative play combined with guys trying to impress you by placing bets for you (seen it happen many, many times) results in the overall "odds" being in your favor.

I consider there to be a big difference between legitimately counting cards (keeping track of every single card in all 6 decks and betting accordingly) and using the cards dealt in the past few hands as indicators to whether or not you should take a chance.

I guess it's roughly the same thing, but one you need to be A+++ for and the other you just need to not be retarded.

Edit: Also, take it for what it's worth, I don't gamble at casinos ever and I never will. Football games, poker, etc, I will occasionally but I've never understood dropping money at casinos. I'd rather invest in Enron.

Craps is just an awesome game in general. Someone else mentioned take your first winnings, and then play with the houses money. I do this every time, and have never walked away from a table without a profit. I would have walked away with far far far more if I had the guts to pull my bets eventually.. but I feel guilty doing it. Also, I have never experienced anything else in vegas like a hot table in craps. You get a crowd of people ontop of the players, all cheering you on. First time in Vegas and first time rolling, 48 consecutive rolls. Made for an awesome trip.

I go with $200, play $5 minimum bet craps, drink free drinks, socialize with the other people at the table, watch people win or lose huge chunks of money - the way I play it takes forever for my stack to move much in either direction, I can usually get at least 15 hours of play out of $200 (and that would be a long time for a weekend in Vegas). If I lose all $200, oh well, I got my 10-15 hours of entertainment and probably 15 Jameson+cokes in that time period, and if I win money - even better.

Expect to lose, enjoy the time you spend playing, and play a fun game, and gambling is a good time. I'll never understand playing slots, I find it soul-crushingly boring and depressing. Roulette and Blackjack are fun, but the games are so fast that you can lose money really quickly if you get on a bad luck streak - I love craps because there's a ton of action all the time but you only have to bet infrequently.

See: being 16 years old playing golf getting teamed up with 2-3 middle aged business men while wearing camo shorts and having some strange colored hair. Wait for them to put money on a hole between themselves (never takes long) -> offer up some cash to get in on the friendly wager -> play just good enough to kick their asses without letting them know you're really a 4 handicap.

Repeat daily all summer.

I'm with Sath, I've never understood why people enjoy games of pure chance so much. Unless your really stupid and don't understand the odds, you know exactly what your chances are. At that point it is all luck, and even if you get lucky a bit most people are too stupid to walk away after getting a streak in their favor and end up losing all that they won originally. At least with poker or sports betting you have some influence on whether you win or lose, chance games you might as well hand the casino 100$ and politely ask them if they feel like giving you anything in return.

I do understand Archi's mentality though, if you enjoy the casino environment and plan on spending money on a night out anyway, then a Casino makes sense because you have fun just like other people who spend money going to a movie or Mariners game and occasionally that night of entertainment will pay for itself. I don't think that is the mentality most people have though, I think most people are much more retarded than Arch.

My view has always been, why bet money on something if you have absolutely no control over the outcome? It seems to me that it is for people who suck at everything and so betting on something they have control over just means a guaranteed loss, while something you can't influence means you can't fuck it up.
