Sony Bravia Backlight problems

I've googled it and seen some people having the same issues as me.

But in any kind of dark scenes on my TV (DVD, Cable, Videa Games) my backlight looks like a cloud in the middle of my screen.

They said it could be hardware related or software related.. if its software related how the hell do you do a software update to a TV. And I believe I have the extended warranty on the TV, if not how much do TV repairs usually run?

Most HDTVs have USB in plugs, just download the update and put it on the USB key and TV should offer update. (some models offers Over-The-Air update as well.)

Repairs for TVs depend on the issue... electronic boards or screen panel cost usually more than the TV itself...

Seems you're describing an effect simply called clouding. LCD's have been known to have this issue, especially certain Sony and Samsung TV's. Which type Sony Bravia is it?

There isn't much you can actually do about it afaik. It's in the panel.

I was reading that software updates can fix it, if not its in warranty still I believe.

Doesn't ring a bell of having clouding issues, seems a 2008 model? Haven't been keeping track much of 2008 or before that lol.

Anywho, you probably came around this too, but looking around on google I came across this: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...mdl=KDL40SL140 which basically shows no firmware upgrades for your TV. Could always try mailing Sony for a firmware upgrade and then sticking it on a USB stick since your TV does have that or maybe you have to send it in and they can upgrade the firmware for you since you got extended warranty.

If they have to fix the panel, I don't know. As far as I know they'd replace it with the same type of panel for that line of Sony Bravia's, meaning you could very well end up with the clouding again. Some LCD TV lines simply have more issues with it than others due to having a shit type of panel or a good type of panel in the TV. If you got extended warranty then having the panel fixed might be an option, otherwise you might be better off buying a brand new TV since the panel is the big money item in the TV.

You didn't have this problem before? Usually clouding shows the first weeks and then has a chance to disappear slighty or completely in the weeks after purchase. Never heard of a case where people had it show up after years of use.

Yea im afraid to get the panel replaced cuz it'll just do it again and could potentially be even worse this time =(

and yea I saw that there werent any firmware updates for my TV, im gonna call them back tonite when I get home, talked to them this morning omw to work and forgot to right the S/N down. Its pretty unbearable to watch tho, especially play Red Dead on.

Ive been wanting a newer TV for the living room anyhow and moving that one to the bedroom just to watch in the morning while my wife gets ready for work. whats a good brand these days? I hear samsungs get a lot of bleeds too. My mother has a vizio and she hasnt had any problems with hers.

We have 3 huge Vizios at home, had them for a few years each and never had a problem with any of them. I have no idea about the tech specs other than they're 1080p and have all the input/outputs I need. The sound is decent too, but i've had problems with tv's in the past having horrible reverb and get shaky when they're turned up too loud so my opinion on these might be biased.

For LCD's I honestly wouldn't know what to recommend, I switched to plasma for my latest TV. LCD's of 2009 in Sony's and Samsung's line still had clouding issues not to mention stupid huge input lag for gaming. Sony Z4500 (2008 model, this was the EU name, I assume it is the same in the US) was a very nice LCD, but ya kinda old by now.

lol I usually use this site http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ for my HD TV info and I just put in in LCD in their little TV selector tool and the Z4500 came out lol. I'd keep an eye on that site for reviews in the near future, with the football world cup coming up everybody wants their TV's out now and I'm sure they'll review some of them.

lol yea last nite I was like this seems so ridiculous I might as well try it, and it worked. I dont necessarily think it was a problem with the panel itself, just the fact that there was uneven pressure on the panel and massaging it i guess loosened it up or some shit
