    Downloading email from Gmail

    Hey all,

I've been trying to download all my mail from Gmail via POP3 but for some reason client only downloads email from Sept. 2008 - Today. I've got plenty of older conversations but I can't get to download them.

Am I missing anything here? I tried marking everything "Unread" but it didn't do any good.

I was normally using IMAP to get email from my computer client and BlackBerry, it's been working wonderfully but I would like to wipe off all data on server and create a solid back up on HD/other media, then get back to IMAP again.

Probably because there are too many of them, I believe Gmail POP loads a list of all the emails on the server... deleting some may work.

There's something in the GMail POP settings on the web site you have to change to make them all download. It marks which have been downloaded already, whether or not they are marked as read, and doesn't download them again unless you reset the download settings on your account.

ugh, soooo much fail, Gmail. so much fail.

This worked, I had to re-check "Enable POP even if the mail are downloaded already" to get the old stuff download.

    ...which was already checked before.

    Thanks for the help.
