First, the 80 fire path becomes Absolution 105 (~107) 513 6 STR 20 attack.
If you can't get a 5 hit there's no reason you would want to lower your base damage, lower your attack, and lower your attack speed.
Fire path likely stomps plaga, but takes a lot of effort to get. Plaga also conflicts with sambas, so depends on if you ever party with dancers.
I wanna beef up my blue mage some more
What's better? Ire Torque/+1 or +4 Blue Magic skill to a neck for cannonball?
Edit: ThanksAh, I forgot we can just go into Riverine and whack Boroka now, solo.

Because Pld is still a great tank and only faggot bandwagoners that tank ridiculously easy shit dont understand that?
P.S. I also bring Sam, Mnk, etc to DD tank when it's more efficient. But I'm not so fucking retarded that I dont understand the plethora of variety pld offers (especially a pld geared like mine) and the versatility it adds.
I agree with your PS statement, but uhhh WTF @ your first statement? Every NM in Abyssea pretty much (k, except the flying wyrm?), every ZNM, Odin, Nid, Khim, Cerb, etc, etc are all easily tankable by DD. So things that aren't ridiculously easy to tank are what, kited fights (KB is hard!), Flying wyrms (though really, a DD can easily rip hate off the pld and tank fine on the ground, just can't maintain hate in the air), PW, and AV?
Don't get me wrong, I think paladins are significantly better than say Tsuko makes them out to be, but I think you're opening line there is going a bit overboard.
Most non-god-tier jobs are significantly better than certain people make them out to be, I was simply making a point. I find it ridiculous that we've come to a point where jobism is breaking out in the stickies. It's stupid in Post Your Gear, it's stupid here, it's stupid in any discussion where the differences and relative benefits of each job aren't the focus of the discussion. Shit has gotten way out of hand.
I personally find the defensive benefits of PLD only go so far given that they're either random (shield) or on a timer (Sentinel, Invincible), but that doesn't stop me from standing behind one on a fairly regular basis.
Well:
I've found Pld great in abyssea simply because we hit a variety of mobs requiring different strats all in one sitting. So while pld isnt "best" for all of them, it still allows me to have a tank that can do -every- NM in the zone with ease.
As for Odin/etc, last Odin my Pld parsed 3rd in total damage (behind the Sam and War), and that's with me stopping TP spam to pop a 300 TP chivalry mid fight and casting/tanking the entire time. And that's before even finishing OA2-3 sword.
Everything else, shit is situational. Obviously if we are going to fight 1-2 mobs that I see DD tanks are better, I'm coming DD tank. But when we're fighting 15 different NMs and 2-3 of them are much better tanked by a PLD (wyrms in air, etc etc) and the rest my Pld can DD within 15-20% of the next best Melee, I'm definitely coming Pld.
I dont think I'm going overboard. I simply said: A smart person knows when to use Pld, and saying it's as useless as blu (pld has far more uses that blu) is silly and ignorant.
Edit: And I mostly have a hatred for blu because of the stigma created by it being THE favored job by 90% of the people that have no idea how to play the game, not because the job sux completely.
Just out of curiosity, what's the etc for mobs that a pld is a better tank for?Admittedly, I haven't done too much in Abyssea outside of Latheine, but I have yet to see a real amazing use for a paladin outside of "we brought it just in case the unknown mob we were popping was hard". Even mid-tier NMs like Carabosse, I felt a DD tank was much better than a paladin.
As for your Odin, I thought you mentioned in another thread the total DDs were like 2 plds, 2 melees, 2 smns or something. So coming in 3rd isn't too impressive. Also, smns blow as DD unless they use Odin, at which point that alone carries their weight ;p
Oh, and for the record, Night, I kinda disagree with you here. Neo still answered the question asked, then made a side comment which may be mean/asshole/etc, but we've never cared about that before. If he had not answered the question, and only flamed BLU, it'd be out of place, but in my opinion, who cares if someone adds shit like that, or more specifically, if we do care, there's a lot more of it going on elsewhere.
Considering 528 delay weapon, is it worth dropping 1 or 2 haste in order to achieve 1 less hit build? Going for 5-hit Reckoning but probably want to drop a Haste % in order to add accuracy to make up for the loss when making 5-hit setup. I have Dusk Gloves +1 and V. Belt, so let's say 22% Haste normally. I would drop Walahra for Ace's probably. Is this worth the upgrade to 5-hit?
How about if I drop 2% (take away both Walahra and Blitz Ring)?
Normally I wouldn't care either; I avoid such arguments for the most part but it comes with the territory, as does arguments over 0.1% increases in gear potential. That said, these topics are supposed to be at least slightly removed from the elitism here and more for simply spreading information. If it had been in any other thread save the BLU thread (which would constitute blatant trolling anyway), I would have only given my advice and left the rest alone.
EDIT: buddha: ignoring any other trades involved yes, it will still be worth it for only 0-2% haste.
Short answer: Yes it's worth dropping 1-2% haste for dropping a hit off your build.
Long answer: It's very very unlikely worth it to swap from WTurban to Aces, especially at 80. You should consider going to Pizza(+1) first, and gaining accuracy in other slots that don't cost haste (back, neck if you use torque, etc). Dropping attack is a far better option that dropping accuracy. You'd have to post your full sets and such perhaps for a full definite answer, but I'm skeptical that Aces is the only place you can gain accuracy.
I dunno, I've seen plenty of elitism in these threads, and again I think the fact he answered the question makes it ok, but who knows, that's just my opinion.
6-hit Absolution wins against 6-hit Recoking (spiral hell +10%)
Recoking (sTP +7) isn't too bad to 5-hit, actually, but you need the following gear:
Rose strap
Rajas Ring
Hoard Ring
Askar Korazin/Aurum Cuirass (Askar easier to get)
Brutal Earring
(if you're lucky enough to have a Goading Belt, you can use Blitz ring instead of Hoard Ring for the same haste as Vbelt/Hoard but no stat-; if you use Swift, Goading Belt + Blitz is even better)
However, if you don't have Askar Korazin, or your campaign rank is too low, I wouldn't bother with 5-hit Reckoning.
Buffed situations (Einherjar/Abyssea/etc): yesI've found the best way for people to beef up their damage when playing blue mage is to swap to another job.
Unbuffed situations: no
Details details, I was happy with my pld doing 15k damage lol.
As for Abyssea, hmm:
Celuebre as mentioned.
Chuckwa (ya I know he's easily tanked by melee and can be low manned, but killing him in 4 minutes during our zone anhilating alliance runs is nicer than 15 minutes in our low man runs and my Pld has less of a chance of getting one shotted from stonega 4 -> stomp (yes melee should start casting so shadows land the moment after ga hits, but in reality I've found it faster to leave hate on my pld and just have my DDs/blms go apeshit on it).
Adze: (again, can be low manned, but it's just so much quicker, cleaner, and easier to let him focus on my pld and let everyone else go apeshit. Our DD spend most of their time casting shadows or getting faceraped due to his attack speed if they are tanking).
Alectryon: Hits for 1500 damage if it hits you while stoned (to a regular melee), 200 per tic poison when it does connect, etc. This guy is actually a cock monger to low man (missed our nin with about the best evasion set you can get, including magian agi katanas 3 times entire fight).
I can go through the other zones, but it's mostly a matter of what you're comfortable with and playstyle (and I've mostly just dont T1/T2 stuff in other zones, so I've low manned them as a DD tank or support job). You could make an argument about each mob in every zone and a slightly different setup being "better on paper", but I've just found bringing a Pld during our alliance massacre farming of the zones to be significantly better.
Hoard ring is pretty garbage since that is costing you an fstr, 3acc/atk and then another 7acc or 1% haste that you could have worn.
It's one thing if it's mandatory for a specific hit build, it's another when you try to tweak a build to include inferior items. Dropping an accuracy ring and aurum body (~13accuracy) on top of another -3 accuracy seems really silly to still strive for a 5 hit since you've already compromised your gear.
Reckoning provides a viable 6 hit without /SAM and a potential 5 hit. Outside of those two situations you're far better off with an Absolution or another scythe of your choice.
