Well in that situation I would agree with you. I think it would be better to be dead then to essentially be made a zombie. Also, were I in your shoes I think I would have made the same decision. It would be too hard to see a relative there, unable to truly live anymore.
If anything, I look forward to death. The concept of eternal life scares the ever-living shit out of me. No matter how I exist, I'll have infinity to see all permutations of everything possible and learn all knowledge possible. If for some reason I cannot or do not care about seeing all the permutations and/or learning, then who I am has fundamentally changed and that means I'm no longer me. (Which also scares the shit out of me.)
It actually brings me quite a bit of comfort to know this is the only life we have. Makes life seem far more special and worthwhile that way, at least it does to me, anyway.
i'd rather not die, but it's going to happen.
Bring it, bitches. i'm ready any time for existence to end(no heaven etc)
Oh yeah, that definitely made the choice easier, but I do not ever want to have the power to take a life in my hands like that again. It was completely surreal and can not be explained in words, seeing a last breath and the body's reaction is bit weird too. Television pretty much fucks that idea up and makes it far more dramatic than it really is.
I'm scared of death. I'll be honest about it. Fact is, I didn't used to until I got really sick and actually had to face the reality that it could happen very soon (within a matter of days/weeks). Luckily I got better, but it forced me to realize just how much my life means to me. My life is much different as a result of coming to that plane of thought.
I bet :/ I work in a hospital and see it every day. I've never had to really experience the last moments though, I just move the bodies after the fact. The closest I've come to that is my chinchilla just had babies 2 weeks ago and one of the little guys died slowly in my hands as I was trying to nurse it, and that was pretty damn sad. I could only imagine what it was like for it to be a person, let alone your own mother.
I don't necessarily fear my own death so much, as I fear the death of the people I love.
Up to this point, I've dealt with it pretty well - and the only time I actually broke down and cried was when my mom broke down and cried at the loss of my grandmother (her mother).
Losing your mother must be fucking awful. Same with losing a child, and (depending on your relationship) your spouse.
I don't fear death in the sense that "it could happen tomorrow", or "I hope I don't get cancer"... but if I lost a limb or got impaled with something, I'd freak the fuck out.
If I got diagnosed with a terminal illness, the hardest thing would be telling my mom "I'm gonna die"... but I'd fight it as much as I could.
The alternative to dying is immortality on earth. I'm not so sure that'd be a great option either - considering you'd live to see everyone you've ever had ties to die, and then become distant memories.
Religion does play a huge part in this too, and it's a two-headed coin - and it's own worst enemy. If you look at it from a cynical point of view, it can seem to be a charade - a fairy tale, or just some thousand-year old scam to keep people in line.
I firmly believe you need to seek your own answers, have your own beliefs, and your own personal relationship with God - to truly be religious. Of course, religious people will disagree with me on this.
I'm not afraid of the concept of death or the fact that I could/will be gone, but in a death situation, you will have instinct response, which will cause anxiety or at least a reaction.
Absolutely terrified
