Soap tends to make deer stay away, but I know that's deer in the woods. You could try taking a bar of soap and spreading soap shavings around your yard. Not sure if it will work with this particular deer since it's used to people and their smells.

The thing is though, we only get them down here maybe once every year or so, and normally they run away almost immediately or animal control can take care of it, so deterrent seems a bit overboard, but neither happened this time. Anyways, it started pouring again and it eventually took off, but had a pretty hilarious moment where it came right up to the patio and had a staring contest with our cat (they stared at each other for a good minute), although finding a giant mound of shit balls wasn't as funny.

Venison is wonderful. Also, Tanya Harding was on to something.

Have you considered buying a dog? Third most effective means of deer control, after rifles and shotguns.

A more humane way of dealing with it... and something you can readily find is Capsaicin and Moth balls. It's apparently an irritant. I dont know how it works, but i live on a river channel with a large wooded area in front of my road.. so i get creatures of all sorts that want to take the easy path across my (and neighbors) yards. Snake away stuff that i found at home depot works on pretty much everything except those damned armadillos. Those bastards nearly killed my blueberry bushes

Kinda what Zouri said, capsaicin in its more common household form of chili powder is also a pretty effective way of making troublesome wildlife move on from your garden. Sprinkle a bit along their resting places/travel routes and they don't tend to come back. NOT recommended vs. cats though since they can rub it from their paws to their eyes very easily while cleaning themselves.

My uncle does this.. travel-size bars of Ivory tied to garden stakes is very effective at keeping deer and other woodland creatures from eating your plants. Can't say it'll keep deer off your property for certain tho, unless you plants soap stakes all along your property line.

Lot of good ideas- worst case, you can always do what my grandpa did.

Shotgun blast full of rock salt. "Less lethal" in the extreme, won't really even do harm outside of about 15 feet or so but scares the shit out of most animals.

(Ignore the movies- rocksalt-filled shells deliver so little force you barely even feel recoil when firing one, and won't break someone's skin unless you're within 3 yards of the target.)

lol.. my parents throw out corn and just sit and watch them eat in the late afternoon.
hell they graze in my yard. Couldnt give to shits about them eating anything out there.

I would just say use some firecrackers? get some m60s or what ever they are called. Have a few sitting around when they get to close.
