Finally someone who post some facts. Btw this study is worldwide, the US situation is quite different (36% for RIM / 28% for Android / 21% for Apple) according to a study released by NPD Marketing 2 weeks ago

There is essentially one phone a year released with Apples Mobile OS since apple doesn't license out its OS. While android is Free for any hardware company to use.

The fact that that Android doesn't have a bigger Market share under those conditions is telling in that while its doing good(I won't argue with that) its still not ready for worldwide consumption.

In fact I'd argue that Open source OS is niche in that most people would rather have quality and stable OS then OS that have a very limited screening process. The amount of apps in the Android market that are trash and can cause your phone to crash is pretty high.

Google doesn't even vet Apps at all unless people submit a complaint about it.

I'll concede that Android is not mature yet (ironically you could say it's because it's closed on iOS that it is that mature, a version every 6 months and changes done every 2 weeks is just asking for troubles). But they're definitly getting there, 2.2 is pretty good.

Honestly I don't believe in the X>Y... each has its flaws/strenghts and more importantly Android is what makes iOS better, and the other way around.

To the person who is mad about spell check not getting eveything and fixing it is a bitch. I too hate that but it is a little better witht he keyboard on the moto droid, with that said I wish some of the newer phones would also have a physical keyboard. That is a second reason that I I waiting out on grafting a new phone as long as I can, sorta hopping a phone thaylt works as well as mine with better specs and a physical keyboard pops up in the next year. On screen is cool and all but at times I just have to use my normal one

Well thats a big jump still. I forget it 08 or 09 was the year android overtook the Iphone, but given its only been a year maybe two; its a big thing that its up a few more percent right now. Think from now on android is going to sell more then the Iphone because anyone can use it and its proven to be a great OS now. 2.0 was sorta the leap for the OS 1.6 was ok but whenever I use a my-touch I just hate it lol

I'm due for an upgrade, no charges etc, is this how it will work for me or is there a better way (i.e., walking into a store and walking out with it on 24th)

I called my local AT&T store and they said that you'll have to come in on the 15th and pay for everything. I'm going to pre-order at my store instead of online.

I thought if you pre-order that they send you the phone? You have to still pick it up at the store?

When you order online, there will be 2 options - home delivery or store delivery. You either pick it up at the store and they will activate for you, or you can activate through itunes at home.

Of course, given it's launch day, there will probably be activation issues at home ;o

Wooooot! So I found out I am elligable for pre-order and upgrade on my existing contract.
Question?

I got a ton of music that doesn't fit on my current 16GB iphone, which I also use for running/gym ect. should I (A) Get the 32GB phone and continue to use for all activities or
(B) get the 16GB upgrade and buy a seperate 160GB ipod for all my media stuff

I don't feel like carrying 2 ipods with me whenever I go out which will be a hassle, but on the other hand my current iphone is really beat up from wear and tear from running and doubling as my music player. Any advice?

It's pretty retarded that you have to be on wifi to use the video chatting.... AT&T seems to nerf every feature that is added to the iphone.

By a few months, you mean 6+ months. They said if your contract is up anytime in 2010, you get the discount. That's up to 6 months early, depending on how late in 2010 your contract is up. Since he has to pay full retail price, I'm assuming his contract is up in 2011, meaning he has to wait all the way until 2011 to get the discount. There's no early upgrade for that scenario.
