It's pretty retarded that you have to be on wifi to use the video chatting.... AT&T seems to nerf every feature that is added to the iphone.

No it isn't. Video chatting on their (and hell I'd wager anyone's) current 3G infrastructure would be disastrous. Plus, if you have one of the new capped data plans, I can only imagine how much the video chats would cut into that.

I think I'll be perfectly fine with Wifi video chat only.

Once the phone is jailbroken (people already claim the os4 already is), people could enable 3g for video chat just like every other piece of software out there that is wifi only.

And maybe I won't be getting a iphone 4, after explaining to my girlfriend about the difference she wants it now. This is the same one that wanted to buy a 3g 2 months ago, because the 3gs was "too expensive". Blah

Donno what hes doing with his evo, I stress tested my friends for a full 12 hours without needing to charge it. This is lowered brightness (of course), and not stressing the cpu to full all the time.

If I max out the cpu on my touchpro 2 it will run out in a few hours as well. My guess is he was just trying to run the battery out as fast as possible.

Even if the iPhone has the guts to do on-the-fly H.264 encoding, and even if you limit yourself to SD video, you're probably going to be pushing ~512k of bandwidth to get decently smooth (>15 FPS) video.

That's past what you're going to be reliably getting as a single user on a 3G network, and will basically choke the base station for everyone else nearby, especially if a couple people start video chatting in the same area.

And, to be honest, SD video chat on a cell-phone size screen isn't really my idea of a good time. I'll readily admit I'm spoiled, but the whole point of video chatting is to pick up on things like facial expressions and body language that regular phone calls miss, both of which are less visible on such a small screen.

And, unfortunately, a 65" plasma isn't very portable.

I don't think the white will be too bad. The 3gs in white was, but it was also plastic, not glass. At worst you can just wipe it off. He'll the white may end up being cleaner this time around. Won't show fingerprints or scratches.

Of course my 3 year old metal first gen hardly has a scratch on it anyway.

I took my 3G to Afghanistan with me. I low crawled with it through dirt/rocks/bullet shells.. I had it rub against my body and my armor in 120 degree weather for 18 hours a day.. I had it completely covered in mud a couple times (still has some in the speakers >.>). And the fucker still works.

I love my 3G. I'm ecstatic about the 4.

The only question is... To unlock or not unlock..

I went to the AT&T store today to see if they had any display models (they don't), and she had informed me that they are taking pre-orders with a credit card only. I asked her if a mastercard bank card was acceptable, but she didn't know for certain, although I'd be sure it is. Just something you may want to keep in mind though.

AMEX/Visa/MC/Discover should all work (any major credit card really). You can also use a Visa logo debit card and just ask your rep to run it as credit. at&t won't have the demo phones on display until the very day the phone comes out.

I'm selling my iphone 3g, however I'm not canceling my iphone plan from my account because I want to carry over the unlimited plan. Will the person buying it be able to activate the phone before I activate the 4 to my account?
