if you're a new customer you are automatically moved to their new data plans. if you're a current customer upgrading to the iphone 4, you can choose to stay on the unlimited plan or go to the newer ones which are slightly cheaper.. but aren't unlimited

For new customers.........

You can pay $10/month for 200mb/month

or

You can pay $25/month for 2gb/month.


If pick the 200mb option, and go over your 200 mb limit they charge you another $10 for 200 additional mb. If you catch your going over your limit before your month ends, you can bump it up to the 2gb plan and freely switch back next month.

If it runs off OS4 from the start, there is some (shady) proof that there are jailbreaks through blackrain and spirit for this already. I havn't heard anything about tethering though, since they all seem to be just proof of concept type talks more than details.

I gave 2 iphone 2g's sitting around my house I never bothered selling.

I know when my girlfriend went into a radioshack 2-3 months ago, they offered her a iphone 3gs for $100 if she traded in her 2g iphone. If at&t doesn't do it, maybe check there?

AT&T does not do trade-ins or buy backs on iPhones. Your old phones are yours to keep and do with whatever you wish. E-Bay, etc.

I bought my iPhone in Nov 2009. So basically I can preorder the new iPhone and all I have to pay is $18 with an added 2 years onto my contract? Am I reading this right or do I have to pay $200 for the phone and $18 on top since I have a contract that doesn't expire soon?

This means you need to pay an additional $200 on top of the $199/$299 and the upgrade fee of $18 you pay when your next bill after the upgrade comes around. AT&T refers to this as an early upgrade.

edit: that's if you do it before 3/14/2011, after that you pay the standard $199/$299 for the phone
