I guess I'll have to go through some other hoop in that process in order to extend my contract? Or do I do that at the same time I pick up the phone?

thats what i dont understand. If I pre-order thru apple and they ship me the phone and I pay them the 200 bucks, wouldnt that just be like bringing my own equipment into ATT to get swapped over?
is it only 199+200 if you're not eligible to upgrade if you get it at an ATT store, so can you like bypass the extra 200 bucks if you pre-order from apple
You do the contract extension when you pick up the phone from apple.
Also, the + $200 is just what AT&T has done up to now with the iPhone if you're not eligible.
Basically:
1- Want iphone, can upgrade? congrats iphone is for you
2- Want iphone, not eligible (have had contract for 12+ months)? you can renew contract (early) and pay $200 over price of iphone you want.
3- Want iphone, last upgrade less than 12 months ago? Pay full price for iPhone.
Hope this helps.
edit: My info is all at&t info, Apple might have a way of overriding all this and letting you preorder for the $199/$299 no matter your situation because they have in the past. That's just up to how Apple wants to handle each situation.
I guess, I'll just go for the preorder and see what happens from there. I know I can get the upgrade price, just wasn't sure how the process was going to work as I've never preordered any phone before.
New upgrade prices:
$150 for the 16g, $200 for the 32g. Shitttttttt.
Closeout prices for at&t. While supplies last only kind of stuff and you cannot return them later on.
edit: That is for the current 3G S. iPhone 4 will be at the same price points of $199/$299.
Bastards, I thought that they lowered the prices for the new ones![]()
The $99 8GB 3G is also being replaced with a $99 8GB 3G S, not sure if that was mentioned already or not.
I need to find a sucker at work who'll go for a 3G iPhone so I can justify upgrading
Totally getting this on launch day. My 3g is starting to suck.
3GS prices are all dropping one tier on top of it all. So good luck selling your 3G or older model...
That's my main reason for wanting an upgrade at all. Playing a game or loading an application on my girlfriend's iPhone 3GS and then playing/opening the same thing on my 3G is frustrating.
My 3G is pretty much beyond the point of help. Browsing safari for a hour straight will sap the battery from 100 > 0.
This is why it was kind of dumb for Apple to not approve AirTunes, which would let you sync with iTunes over wifi. Every battery has a finite number of charges in it and every time you connect via usb cable to sync you kill one charge cycle whether your battery is 9% charged or 90%. Maybe if you have a usb hub that does not pass along power you can get around this but Apple better offer over wifi syncing soon.
well with proper charging procedures a battery should easily last 2+ years therefore I don't consider the internal battery to be an issue. These days the rate of technological advance is such that by the time your 2 year contract is up and you want a new phone the battery in your old phone is just starting to go.
Well, just threw the battery out there..... Not for battery cycle issues, just for longer use of the phone in between charges. I've personally had no problems with my 3g and 3gs and battery issues, however I never used them in a business environment that didn't give me access to a charger in someway.
Compared to my HTC Hero, or older blackberries....... where I always had a spare charged battery on me all the time -.-
The phone is supposed to arrive in Canada in July....and I'll be getting it then. My current 3 year contract is up in August, so I'll be paying a minimal amount for early termination.
I'm getting pretty annoyed with carrying both my IPod Touch and cell phone around too. And I don't care to wait for the Windows Phone 7 to arrive in Canada.
