Backup Software

I was wondering what all programs our techies use to backup their computers. I've used Fab's AutoBackup in the past, but I don't like the new changes with vista/w7 support. I heard Comodo 2.0 was good, but I haven't tried it.

What backup software do you use/recommend?

Depends on what you want to do.

On one PC I have two decades worth of pics, documets, music, etcetc that I just copy/paste to an external HD monthly.

On another PC I have information that needs to be backed up nightly and I just use a batch file and an automated task to back it up to a flash drive.

On my past work PCs I would just use the built in microsoft backup utility which backs up pretty much everything, even server data like exchange, which can resotre a PC to fully working condition from scratch in under 1hr.

Unless youre working for a mulimilion dollar corporation, theres really no need to use any method aside from one of these three, in the other cases youll be provided with a 1000$+ program.

Does this do more than imaging? I'd be interested if I could utilize the backups to grab just a few files or folders when needed.

Personally I use GFI Backup and really like it. I've tried Cobian Backup before as well as Syncback, but overall I settled on GFI.

I've never used it for anything besides deploy/image. But it does have some nifty features pertaining to live backup.

Acronis is by far the best. But yes, it does have a file/folder backup feature. It backup to network storage... hell, pretty much anything a backup software can do, Acronis will do.

If you want a free alternative, I'd highly recommend Macrium Reflect Free Edition. It's a really good program, just not as powerful or robust as some of the paid programs. Give it a try though and see if you need something better.
