Looking up Room mates or apartments?

So I'm looking for a new place to live, been checking mostly craigslist.com, also tried Roomster.com but they expect you to pay to see your messages... Does anyone know where else to check for people looking for roommates or cheaper apartments? I tried doing a search since I'm sure someone else has asked this before but I got nothing relevant back, so I figured I would just post something. Also if theres anyone in Ann Arbor/Canton/Ypsi area with a room they want to rent send me a PM

    thanks for any help/tips

I actually just signed a lease in the Ann Arbor area yesterday. What's the price range you're looking at? If you're interested in the university campus area: http://www.offcampus.housing.umich.edu has been what I've been using. Land lords are getting a bit desperate to fill rooms recently so they've been making deals and cutting their rates a bit. You can pretty reasonably find a place near downtown for under $500/m that includes utilities, but don't expect luxury living or anything. There are a number of apartment complexes further out that I know still have vacancies, but I'm not sure of a good way to find them online.

I'm actually in WCC, not in EMU or U of M. but I work right around U of M (Maybe you've eaten at Pizza house? lol) I don't make a lot right now was trying to find something in the $300-400 range. Like I said was trying to go for a room/share a house with roommates moreso then rent my own place. Still in school and all that. That's cool you were in Ann Arbor though haha.

Man if Michigan didn't suck so bad I'd totally move there for rent that cheap...

craigslist is really good but you have to be diligent and know exactly what you're looking for to avoid all the spam. Searching terms such as "house" "duplex" etc help as well as searching specific side streets around where you want to live. Just don't search the main ones as people spam those.

Pizza house?! Aww man, if you ever worked the late shift I'm sure I saw you at least once getting that late night personal pizza + shake combo.

Most of the stuff listed in that link are single rooms in shared apartment/houses so definitely take a look, you just avoid the middle man and pay the land lord for your room directly rather than pooling money. You may want to look into some of the student owned co-ops around town as well. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but from what I've gathered basically you "own" part of the place while you're there. Everyone's expected to clean/cook once a week or so to make a community effort to keep it up and running, but in return the amount you pay to stay there is cheap as dirt. If closeness to town / buses isn't much of a seller for you I'd bet there's cheaper availabilities aimed at students further out or in the ypsi area (don't get shot!), but I unfortunately don't know of any resources that you haven't already tapped =/
