    Radeon 5850, what

So, I finally got my new PSU and RADEON 5850. 15 min to install both, 30 more to make it look pretty. Plug everything, boot up, DVI NO SIGNAL.

That's alot of high tech to display a blackscreen.

    What do?

EDIT: Might have found problem, be back in 5

    EDIT2: I did not.

Dunno, did you plug both PCI-e pins from PSU with correct pins?

    Quick google search gives...

    Clear CMOS
Nvidia chipset incompatibility (but I don't think they're even present on recent motherboards)
PCIe 1.0 motherboard incompatible (one thread only but dunno.)
    Spam reset/power button
    Updating MB Bios

A lot of thread are pointing at the cold booting issue...

Hi,I had a similar problem with my new 5850.
Try to change the combination of the connected 6pins to the card.
Also try to change the eventual molex to 6 pins adapter combination.
This resolved the problem I had when cold booting.

Take out the circular battery for 30 seconds and put it back on the motherboard (after removing main electricity cable from the PSU ofc.)

    I'm looking for bios :<

Cold booting is exactly what the name implies... booting at cold, after multiple hours turned off

    Bios: http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Support/...S&FileID=15855

I don't have a Gigabyte but if it's anything like other MBs, run the .exe under Windows and don't touch anything until it reboots.

I noticed that this motherboard has an integrated graphic chipset... did you try plugging the VGA cable to the internal VGA out see if you got any image? May have to disable chipset.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

While I did connect the 2x 6-pin to the card, I did not connect one of the 6 pit to a power cable.

It's working now, but thanks anyway my hero. Btw please don't tell anyone... I'm such a noob.

Random note: That thing is LOUD.

lol. Almost like the "My screen is blank. Is the PC on? Yes. Did you press the power button on the monitor? Yes. Is it plugged into the wall? What?" deal. Easy fixes are the bestest fixes.^^

Since we're semi on topic, if a monitor that supports 1080p, a videocard that supports HD, it's not gonna actually be HD unless I use a HDMI wire and not a DVI, right?

HD is just a commercial name... if your monitor accepts 1920x1080 or 1280x720 then you're in "HD" (respectively 1080p and 720p) regardless of the cable.

I'm on 1920x1080 right now thanks.

I have a question though.. I played MW2 max settings for a bit and it's kind of wierd. I don't actually lag, because fraps shows FPS as 60ish almost 100% of the time, but the games stutters, even when I drop graphics to low. It didn't do that with my old Geforce 8800 GT. What could the problem be?

Also, SiSoftware Sandra says I should raise refresh rate to 75Hz. Should I listen to it or it's random crap like usual?

I hate what marketing has done to people.

Don't blame marketing, blame uninstructed people like me (and DVI was supposed to be DMI, I dunno why I typed DVI).

As for my stuttering problem, I google'd a bit and it's possibly the drivers. I checked on the cd that came with it because that's what I install (thinking a semi-recent card would have up-to-date drivers on it's cd.... Guess I was wrong) and it's 10.2 and on their website they're at 10.5 now.

    Hopefully, maybe...

Maybe because the right name is DVI? lol

As for the stuttering, could be a lot of thing... did you clean properly drivers before installing ATI ones? Personally I just fully format when I change graphic card...

For the refresh rate... depends on your monitor capacities, doesn't really hurt to try but I doubt you're going to see any difference on a loLCD anyway. (CRT4lyfe. )

Yea I did a clean install, at least I hope so. Ccleaner + driver sweeper.

Stuttering did not stop with new drivers.

I thought it was DMI Digital Media Interface

Poke around in catalyst to see what options are enabled- usually they have it set not to the max by default

Digital Video Interface I thinks. HDMI is just DVI with audio. Resolutions above 1080p exist, and they're better than 1080p. :3
