idk if it applies to MW2, but with counterstrike, if you set the vsync to ON, it'll cap out at 60fps. can try turning it off?

i haven't touched them yet but my friend who keeps up with tech specs way more than me told me yesterday to upgrade to the 10.4 drivers, it supposedly is a pretty big improvement in win 7. i think even 10.5 was posted when i went to download them, i just haven't installed them yet.

Go into your catalyst menu and do the following.

Set all the 3D settings to "Application default" or whatever variant of it. Turn off Catalyst AI.

Also make sure you're using the latest drivers from AMD/ATI's website, not the one on the CD.

I'm running windows XP for now, will buy 7 soon and format though.

I did install the drivers from the cd first, but I wiped those and got 10.5 from the website yesterday.

I'll do those things mentioned and hope for the best. Right now I can't even play SC2 maxed out.

Maybe it's because I only have 2 gig of RAM outside of GPU, but I find it highly doubtful, and I also doubt my phenom II x4 940 would be a bottleneck to my GPU.

EDIT: all that stuff is done, gonna test it now.

In the market for a 5850, which manufacturer do you all suggest? iirc I read on BG in some thread, probly XIV hardware thread, to stay away from Saphire brand. I usually stick with XFX 100% but only ever bought Nvidia from them. Suggestions plz!

Oh and dude yeah ur RAM is totally bottlenecking ur shit right now.

Guess I'll stick with my XFX. Probably going for the 585X-ZNFC off compusa/tigerdirect

Seeing as how Newegg only has the cheap looking shroudless cover looking ones.

Wow I didn't know these newer cards took Audio-in... Does that mean they also accept Video-in through the HDMI port?

The only audio-in is to transport audio from your sound card over HDMI to your monitor... unless I missed something?

Ahh ok. But shouldn't that be considered Audio-Out? Since it's sending it out to an external source via HDMI. Either I just confused myself or the wording in the video is wrong.

Well technically the sound is entering the card and outing by the HDMI cable.

    Semantics I guess

Really dumb question while I'm browsing this topic -- I just ordered a new build and skipped on the monitor because I have an HDTV/monitor already that I'll just use for the computer. I haven't owned a desktop in years -- do most desktops now come with HDMI ports? Or is it still DVI input with those fat, multi-pin connectors that go from the tower to the port on the TV?

Depends on the graphic card, Nvidia most likely DVIx2 (shipped with a DVI to HDMI adapter), ATI has all DVIx2 + HDMI, onboard chipset is random

Alright. I have a Radeon 5850 so I should be good to go to hook up an HDMI cable between the tower and monitor just like I would for my PS3 or any console with an HDMI input to the TV, right? Also, will the HDMI connection transmit sound to the TV's speakers?

    Yeah for Q1, simple plug&play.

Q2 you need to link your sound card (or sound chipset on MB) with the bundled SPDIF cable.

...though it's ATI I don't have the slightest idea how they work, may not even have to.

(after a quick google search you don't even have to apparently.)

Alright. And failing that (if for whatever reason Cyberpower doesn't include the SPDIF cable) I can just fall back on a pair USB powered external speakers and be good to go, yeah? I didn't customize the build with any special sound devices, just onboard audio.

Uh yeah. But apparently there won't even be a need for any cable with ATI 5850.

I have that same mother board, and was wondering if you have any issues with the 5850 covering up your SATA ports? I am looking at getting a 5850 pretty soon myself.

Actually thats not what I have, I was on laptop and couldnt open SiSandra to tell me what mobo I had xD. I picked that one because I knew mine had won awards like that on newegg, silly me.

I have the UD3H and I assuming theyre similar, I have all my SATA ports available AFAIK (I only use 2, and I know for a certainty that at least 3 arent covered by card).
