I never actually even found a crossbow other than from that one quest.

I missed the Cloak and Daggers quest, but you can buy the crossbow in Hengsha. I was just too stingy and tight on space to pick it up. Honestly, I thought raping face with my 10mm and various grenades was bad ass enough.

I just started playing this and holy shit is Barret a fucking nightmare. I've spent at least 20 attempts trying to kill this bastard. His reload time is so unforgiving, you have a 1 second window to pop a quick shot off and duck quickly. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't slowly make his way to your hiding spot, blasting you with bullets so you can't run away. Sheesh.

Stealth feels really good though. I loved sneaking around the levels once you get a feel for the game. I honestly think I spent most of my time hacking random computers/devices.

Going to go back and see if I can beat Barret somehow. I picked stealth/utility augs so I lack all the right tools for firefights.

EMP grenades and the stun gun are your friends for Barret.

All I did was lead him to a column and ran around it facing the column and poping out to shoot him from time to time. If he damages you, you can just move around the column till you recover just make sure he's always straight in front of you behind the column. He cant shoot through it and moves slow so it's not a problem to keep up usually.

Can you stun him? Every time I get near him he just throws me to the ground. I only have one grenade, it's not enough though.

I actually found out about these poison canisters through Youtube so I guess I'll do that.

Yeah you can. Keep in mind that the stun gun actually has a decent range to it. You don't need to be pressed up right against him.

I had a hard time with him too. A couple things to note about the fight:

1.) If you can sprint to either of the two siderooms with supplies at the start, you can hide there, he will come and look into the room, but he won't enter it. The problem with the side room closest to the start(to the left of the start) is that he may come right to it and throw a grenade instead of walking away. But if you can hide in that room and not show yourself to him, he will get confused and start to walk away.

2.) There are a ton of explosive barrels and shit in the room. When hes walking around with his back turned, you can pick them up, then use the fire button to hit him with them.

You could also hit him in the dome with 33 10m pistol shots, but I think that's for the hardcore.

Also - anyone playing the stealth or non lethal route find it frustrating that they put you in this head on firefight with no other tactics available, no grates, no alternate routes that you could've avoided being spotted initially in the cutscene to give you an advantage. I just think it detracts from that play the game the way you want to style, especially when you've spent most of your upgrades on stealth stuff that doesn't help with direct firefights.

It works. It stuns him for a few secs which allows you to almost unload a full round with the combat rifle.

Tried searching the thread, but nothing came up so I'll ask.

I've been reading a bit about DX:HR's stuttering problem on PCs. I picked it up earlier this week and, while I know my CPU is the bottleneck (Intel dual-core E8400, GTX 560 Ti graphics card), I've been experiencing minor, but consistent, stuttering at any graphics detail level. Some sources say it's just an issue with the UE3/Tomb Raider engine DX:HR is built on, other users have never experienced the problem, even on lower-end machines.

Any BG'ers have any experience with stuttering and any options that might fix it? I've got a decent FPS with SASO and AA turned off, but I haven't tried messing around with the "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames" setting in my nVidia driver control panel (thinking back to some other games with stutter, like FO3, where that helped)
