Deus Ex: HR’s Boss Fights Were Outsourced

It’s perhaps of note that the president of the company explains that he wasn’t familiar with Deus Ex. Because he’s “a shooter guy”. Which seems an odd explanation for apparently never having heard of the series’ reputation – something that seems impossible from within development.

This would explain alot of things.

Honestly, I didn't think the bosses were bad at all. All these people complaining about how they leveled up hacking fancying themselves to be smart or something. But once a boss comes around, they'll be damned if they don't think outside the box to beat them. Just browsing the internet I've found ways to kill the first boss by just throwing shit at him, the third boss with a single punch, and there are a ton of ways to mess with the 2nd boss too.

Cue the movie of the guy clearing most of the game with a snack machine.

    EDIT:
I cheated on the 3rd? boss (Jaron). I brought the turret off and just kited him into it. I actually used that sweet turret to clear out the whole area. I should make a love story movie about that turret. Saved my bacon.

The point is less that the boss battles can be a challenge with certain setups, and more that there's one way to beat them: killing them. In the original game, you could escape the bosses. You could discover their shutdown phrases, and in turn prevent the fight from starting when they approached.
DXHR has "options", but they amount to things in the environment you can potentially use to your advantage (particularly if you're immune to them thanks to augments).

The bosses in Deux Ex were also actual characters in the game, versus feeling like guest appearances from the Metal Gear Solid series.

That the boss battles were outsourced makes a bit of that make sense.

Relevant, in the unlikely case anyone had missed it:

Not relevant to the discussion at hand and even less likely anyone missed it, given the updating frequency of Ramsoomair, but oh so true:

I, too, found myself in the "Hacker vs Barrett" situation on my first playthrough, and while it was challenging, never got frustrated by it.
Might have been different hadn't I been carrying a few explosives, though.
It's really not that big a deal, and in a way it was a nice change of pace to be forced to brute force through a short sequence like that.

What was frustrating was not killing any cops and having deliberately blown it with Haas in the Morgue mission (+Motherly sidequest at the same time); so many of them to sneak past and so few vent shafts to shortcut through (didn't have Cloak).

I'm still not sure what to think of the game after 2 playthroughs.
It's undeniably good, but is it as good as it's been flaunted?

    Things I liked:
    - Immersion. The simple idea of having an intro with nothing on the screen (health, ammo, that kind of shit) really helped with that.
    - Attention to detail. I mean, how you solve a mission has impact on even innocuous things like the news bulletins, that's so uncommon.
    - Cover system. Similar to MGS2/3, better in some respects, worse in some.
    - Sandbox.
    - Obviously, graphics. Damn, game looks great. Character animations deserve a mention, too: while some characters had some very weird movements (though nothing like what ALL female chars did in Invisible War when talking); others were very lifelike.

    Things I didn't like:
    - Last area. In gameplay, that is. The scenery is nice, but the "zombies" and relatively underwhelming nature of it all was disappointing. Still, better than IW's last area.
    - Endings. None of them is that clearly defined, none of them makes sense in the context of the first game and they mostly come out of the blue. Still, better than IW's endings.

Things I learned on my second playthrough:
    - Cloak is a gamebreaker. Srsly, it's a "sneaking" tool that mostly makes sneaking irrelevant: with the right spending (Cloak, Sprint speed&duration, Energy regen), you can basically Cloak+Sprint through 90% of the game.
No hiding, just Sprint past the guards, as long as they're not hostile yet, they won't locate you on noise alone (exception: the "zombies", Cloak seemed inefficient on them).

Overall, I think I liked the first Deus Ex more. Feels weird saying that, given the obvious qualities of this one, but still.

Isiolia: I don't see how you'd evade Walton Simmons.

Yeah pretty classy throwing that crap in there. Apparently they coded it in there and had it activate on a certain date. Irritating.

I'm climbing the tower right now and I was discovered. For whatever reason since I was discovered I can't blend in at all. Every turn I make the game automatically goes into alert status. I can't kill a billion robots and heavy guards, its way too much.

Any insight on how to become anon again?

They added couple of 1.99 packs one with additional one mission and a grenade launcher and second with sniper rifle, shotgun, and 10,000 credits. Real piece of shit move in my opinion.

What do you guys think about the price? I loved the shit out of Deus Ex, I think it's easily one of the best games of the year, but $15 seems kinda steep for DLC that only adds 5-6 hours of gameplay.

I'll wait for this to get cheaper but I'll definitely buy it.

Just got this game and the Missing Link DLC. Might be a silly question but is the DLC integrated into the game or is it like a standalone game? Cuz it comes with a different startup button. Should I play through the game first and then open up Missing Link and do that after?
