    ViewSonic NX2232w Driver/Recognition Help

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with an nVidia GEFORCE 9600 GT, and cannot get this monitor to be recognized by my OS. It's native resolution is 1680x1050 but yet that isn't even an option in either the W7 "Display Options" or the NVIDIA Control Panel options.

I've downloaded the driver from the ViewSonic website and installed it, but I get an error saying that my monitor is not found upon completion, and it gives me a set of instructions to manually install the driver:
    Spoiler: show
    Code:
Your monitor was not detected. Please follow the instructions below to manualy install your ViewSonic monitor drivers.

NOTE: For your convenience you can print these instructions by pressing the Ctrl and P keys on your keyboard.

    1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, type "devmgmt.msc", and press Enter on your keyboard. On the User Account Control screen, click Continue. The Device Manager screen will display.

    2. On the Device Manager screen, click "+" (preceding Monitors).

    3. Right-click Generic PnP Monitor and select Update Driver Software. The Update Driver Software menu will appear.

    4. On the Update Driver Software menu, select "Browse my computer for driver software" and select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

    5. On the Update Driver Software menu, click Have Disk, type "c:\viewsonic" (where "c" is the boot drive), and click OK.

    6. Select your monitor and click Next.
A warning message may display "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software." Please ignore this message and click "Install this driver software anyway."

After the wizard has successfully installed your monitor, click Close.

NOTE: The above instructions are also available on your computer in the "viewsonic" folder.

After I follow those instructions, I get this error:

I cannot figure out how the hell to get this monitor working properly. Right now it's stuck at 1024x768 and everything is extremely large and distorted. I have the monitor connected via HDMI.

    Please, somebody solve this.

One random question, are you going cabled straight from monitor to video card with the same type of connector (and no converters either)? I've noticed at work that sometimes when I had any of the above I'd have the same problem you're having.

I'm going straight from the HDMI port on my card to the HDMI port on my monitor with no adapters/converters. :\ I've also tried rolling back my display drivers to a previous version that allows for forcing of 1680x1050 resolution. Whenever I tried to force it, it says "OUT OF RANGE" on the monitor.

As of now, the monitor still shows in the device manager as a Generic PnP -_-

    Reading Newegg reviews:

"This is not a monitor. I bought this to replace an older ViewSonic monitor, which I liked very much. This thing is a joke compared to that. The screen looks out of focus and there is no way to adjust it. Also, the only PC input is through VGA. Using a DVI-HDMI cable will not work because the maximum resolution that this monitor accepts for HDMI is 1024x768."

"The HDMI is not for use with a computer. Similar issues as other customers. Blurred picture and inconsistant color."

"No DVI port. Still somewhat blurry over VGA. Poor for text or reading. Color matching poor compared with other monitors."

"Using as a PC monitor, it has unacceptable text quality."

Yeah, I'm about to give up and throw it out the window. It's an -alright- 22" 720p gaming TV, but whenever I bought it, it was marketed as an "LCD HDTV/Monitor Combo" which is obviously not the case. Oh well -_-

Yeah, I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but it doesn't seem like a great monitor. Do you have anything that can output VGA to test that at least?

My card only has DVI, HDMI, and TV out connections, but my board has a VGA out for the onboard crap ;\ Just not going to bother with it ._.

Can always try to pull the EDID and modify it to make custom drivers... fuck knows where I saw that tutorial though.
