When you say dim, is it just not as bright lighting-wise, or does it go in to power save?
What kind of monitor is it?
    Are you watching full screen?

I would bet a small amount of money on your monitor having some sort of adaptive brightness control.

Have a read through the manual and on screen display, see if there is an option called "adaptive display", "adaptive power saving", "automatic brightness adjustment" or similar and if it is on, disable it.

I don't have the manual handy (it's in my grandparents room and they're asleep 6am ect), but just w/ the menu that's actually on the monitor itself, I don't see any sort of options that meet the description.

    Brightness/Contrast
    Brightness
    Contrast
    X-contrast (I'm using this)

    INPUT SETTING
    Input setting HDMI2
    Auto Search On

    Color setting
    Nature

    IMAGE SETTING
    Aspect Ratio FULL
    H-Position 50
    V-Position 50
    Clock 50
    Phase 0
    Sharpness 2

    OSD SETTING
    Language English
    H-position 50
    V-Position 50
    Transparency 0%
    OSD Time-out 10 sec
    OSD Color mode 2

    SYSTEM
    AUdio input HDMI
    Volume 50
    Mute Off
    DDC/CI ON
    Factory Reset OFF
    Information

With X-Contrast on, brightness and contrast are both grayed out, can't adjust them.

Not sure if it has to do w/ x-contrast, but H-position, V-position, clock, and phase are also grayed out

kk, X-contrast only effects brightness/contrast, didn't remove gray from the other stuff
