Not to derail, but I would recommend anyone thinking of starting the Anita Blake books not bother unless they like "romance novels."

IGN's comparison of True Blood to Twilight is pretty funny. Especially at the end when they compare Jacob to a Llama
I like the show, and I did wish they focused more on the vampire problems than Maryanne in the second season. I haven't seen any trailers, so I'll just take it as it comes, though my dad over obsesses with it so he always bugs me about what I think will happen. I hoped buying him the books would stop it from happening, but he only reads along as it goes lol.
I thought the arc was very well done, but yeah... They took a minor subplot of the 2nd book and it was apparant they didn't have enough material. Looks like this season Alan ball is writing a subplot that doesn't exist in the books so I'm sire it will be good
Seriously, I hate the idea of building a story around characters you're meant to dislike, unless they're like villains-with-a-glimmer-of-hope types. Sookie and Tara do so much aggravating shit and Eggs/Benedict being all "I don't give a fuuuuuck" all the time got pretty old too, but I understand the reason behind it.
Some things the show has done that I've liked:
- making Tara black, in the book she is described as olive-skinned and she owns a clothing store "Tara's Togs" and being set in Louisiana, it's nice to see non-white actors cast (and grounds the show a little more).
- keeping Lafayette alive. At the end of the first book, Lafayette's the dead person in the back of Andy's car, not Miss Jeanette.
Yeah, in the books, the weres/shifters come more into play in the later books, but most are still mainly vamp-fests. Speaking of weres, there aren't just werewolves... there's werefoxes, werepanthers which, and even a weretiger or two, among others. There's also true "shifters" like Sam Merlotte, who can assume any animal form, as he mentioned in S2, saying he has to "imprint" on an animal to assume its form but they usually have one form they have more of an affinity for, for Sam it's a collie but in the books at one point he also turns into aSpoiler: show.Spoiler: show
They've also slightly touched on the special thing about Sookie from the books, which is explained later on, which is that she is.Spoiler: show
I've read all of the books, so it's interesting to see how Alan Ball adapts the source material, he has changed enough things where it is still unpredictable and interesting to see what ends up on the series.
Beeeeel and Sookeh are irritating as fuck but the other characters are awesome enough to redeem the show, imo. Hope season 3 has better pacing than season 2, though. I was actually getting bored of orgies halfway through season 2.
I enjoy this show and not just for the boobies. I just get pissed off that Sookie has these powers that she basically tries to shut out instead of exploring them. I mean really its not that far of a stretch that she could potentially save herself from some of her shenanigans. Plus suggestive thought, jedi mind tricks, when she was jailed up in the church... wave of the hand, 'You already locked the gate'.
This show was insanely stupid at times. (Seriously, that whole Maryann thing was RETARDED.) I hope they have more awesome and less stupid. I don't want another show going all Heroes on me![]()
Oh yeah, i wonder who they casted for Claudine
Yeah the Maryann arc was terribad.
It was basically a storyline deadend with no plot progression either.
She's telepathic only. She can hear other people's thoughts, not influence them. She could influence them indirectly I suppose by acting a certain way or saying a certain thing from what she could gain by hearing someone's thoughts, but as of yet, that's all there is to it. That's the extent of her powers. She can't push thoughts into someone else's head a la Matt Parkman from Heroes (or at least, this hasn't been introduced in the books or series as of yet, but she can communicate mentally with other telepaths, like Barry the Bellboy, and there's another telepath introduced in the books as well).
And she can't hear supes' thoughts that well, mainly it's humans. She rarely hears vampire thoughts (she has on occasion, extremely rare), and with shifters/weres/"two-natured" people she said it's more like a mood but occasionally she can read their minds more clearly as well.
I just feel Sookie doesnt pay it enough attention, since she cant implant suggestions, then avoid danger by seen what is comming. Like first season, when whats his face attacked her in the final episode. Even that she should have seen it coming more clearly.
You're forgetting she's had this power her whole life and most of the time she absolutely does not want to hear what everybody is thinking. She's probably drowning out background thoughts all the time whether she realizes it or not.
I feel like I've been waiting for the next season of this show for a long ass time.I don't know what I like about it either, but I've been really looking forward to the next season. Maybe I just really like vampires.
Been rewatching S2 to get ready for the coming new season. Completely forgot how hilarious the Queen was. Really hope they bring her into S3 more.
"This alpha male posturing... You two really should just fuck each other and get it over with. I could watch."
And Eric playing Yahtzee is just lulz.
Spoilers from the books:
Spoiler: show
I haven't read the books, just got that bit spoiled for myself already anyway. Not sure on all the details regarding it, think it's mentioned in this season.
Yep, nailed it. I think they're introducing that concept pretty early in the series, it took a while for the books to get around to it. One of the side effects of it, is like previously mentioned (I think I spoilered this before) is her presence is intoxicating to vampires, they like being around her, and they're attracted to her. The other supes seem attracted to her as well though.
