I'm a beerfag but I love hard stuff too. I picked Scotch but I love whiskey in general. In no order I like Ardmore, Laphroaig, Maker's Mark, and Jameson.

Bah.. IPA. Ale or Stout and I'm set. Boddington's / Guinness top priority, nomnomnom. Lagers and Ambers also accepted. Moosehead, Harp, Dos Equis, etc. Swill is a necessary evil as well. PBR, MGD, Coors Light, etc.

But no cognac is not better than a good scotch. Cognac is good, but it doesn't get the job done like scotch does.

There have been a couple attempts but I don't think any were titled "BG Beerfags Thread" or anything like that.

Also, I have come to realize IPAs are like the pinnacle of beer drinking. I like all different kinds of beer (except for wheat) and I would totally be ok with an IPA thread. Going to the World of Beer so often has made my already good knowledge of beer into a sort of retarded level...and I'm only 23 lol. Now I want a beer...

Also thinking of Courvoisier and Hennessy really makes me want some nice Cognac now...shit I made a lot of money the last couple of days, I should pick up a bottle soon. Been a year or so since I have, always get the urge every now and then.

Edit: Scotch has a bizarre after-taste that I have yet to get used to...idk what it is. I'm willing to give it some more chances, but I honestly don't know anyone that likes Scotch and I'm not gunna drop a lot of money on a bottle of a drink I have yet to enjoy. Fuck drinking expensive shit at bars, insane markups.

If you're going to compare good scotch, you have to compare it to good cognac.

At the same price, sure, but a $75 quality bottle of scotch is comparable to like a $200 bottle of cognac, simply because it's so much more expensive to produce.


Find something like what I posted the picture of (that's like a $3k bottle of Armagnac) and you'll understand why cognac is worth it even on the cheap end.

I incorporated a pre-dinner cocktail hour into my daily routine about a year ago. My drink of choice is a perfect manhattan. My preferred version of a perfect manhattan is one part dry and one part sweet vermouth and two parts bourbon. Sometimes I will chill it but most times I go lazy and just toss in a cube

I like fancy beers, and I like fancy whiskey, but I generally stick with two standards:

At home: Makers on the rocks, with a bit of water.

At the bar: Jameson neat, with a Bud in a bottle. Sip and chase.

I will never, ever understand the fascination with mixing whiskey and coke. Just too fucking sweet. My wife drinks bourbon and ginger (ale), which isn't terrible.

Also, somebody bought me a bottle of Suntory Yamakazi as a gift once. I have to say I was disappointed. It had a very bitter taste, not smooth at all. Not sure if something was wrong with the batch, or perhaps it got fucked up in shipping.

There's a specialist whiskey shop in Glasgow, I'll try to get the name of it next time I pass, and see if they have a web site for you to browse.

It has the most amazing variety you'll ever see/taste. They have all your usual commercial makes and a load from local producers. These are incredibly unique because they are made from old family recipes from way back. Reason they're so good is that they are made in a really small scale, poured in a glass bottle with a white sticker and a handwritten label. I love that shit :D
