I like to support local when I can, and it Utah that means High West. I really like their Rendezvous Rye.
Big fan of scotch. We started by going to a scotch tasting 2 years ago, and then picked up a bottle we liked. Friends also pick up bottles so then you can have your own tasting![]()
Here is a pic from the tasting we did, I really liked the ankh (spoilered for big)
Spoiler: show
This is what we have around the house now, and I think we still have some highland park left, my friend has some Scapa 15 which may be my current favorite. I appreciate both peaty and sweeter scotches, they both have awesome qualities.

To me, this is the only whiskey. Not terribly expensive, and goes great by itself straight.

Going on a cruise in summer 2014 and I'm probably going to be looking to grab a bottle of this in the duty free shop if it's there.

I've only seen or heard of this whiskey in Jackson, Michigan. A friend bought me a shot of this at a bar. When told it was Fireball I figured it was a cinnamon liquor. I don't really care for this, but I'm not a huge whiskey fan either. My go to would be any Johnnie Walker.
I honestly wouldn't say Fireball tastes like whiskey at all. It tastes like liquified red hots or cinnamon bears that gets you drunk reeeeaaaal easy.
I forgot to mention that every bar in Jackson serves it chilled. It just wasn't what I was expecting at all. I think I'm officially on old man status because I can't seem to have more than a few drinks without getting super nasty hangovers so I don't really drink anymore![]()
Fireball is so fucking awesome with some cranberry juice. Tastes like cinnamon apple sauce :3
Also Jameson ftw as far as Whiskey is concerned.
I've always had whiskey cocktails and shots in bars, but I've always wanted to learn to drink whiskey/scotch straight.
As mentioned earlier, I was told to put about my thumbs height of whiskey in the glass over ice, add water and every night reduce the amount of water in it. Drinking it like kissing a spiders ass, that I should be able to still talk with how little enters the mouth.
Any tips on what drink to start with? I don't want to spend more than $50, and was thinking either JW or Chivas.
@Boyiee,
Dalmore 12 was a great starter scotch IMO. Right around $50, seemed very smooth for the price to me.
I tried some of that fireball stuff not too long ago. Decent for what it is, but a little to cinnamony to drink a lot.

I'm a Scoth kinda guy. I like probably the known ones, Glenlivet, JW, Glenfiddich and minimum 18 years. Haven't really felt the need to look beyond that because I like those.
