Regardless of how many times I see this episode, it always gets me as well.

It always got me until the zoom out where you see Bender/Leela looting a corpse. Then it's hilarious.

'Futurama' to end seven-season run on Sept. 4

The Planet Express ship will soon make its final delivery.

Comedy Central has decided not to renew Futurama, which means that the 31st-century-set animated comedy will end its 140-episode run on Sept. 4. The final 13 episodes, which represent the second half of season 7, begin airing on June 19 at 10 p.m.

Futurama is no stranger to cancellation, of course: The series aired from 1999 to 2003 before Fox sent Fry & Co. into oblivion. After thriving in reruns on Adult Swim, Futurama was relaunched in 2007 with four-direct-to-DVD movies that Comedy Central ran in half-hour increments as a 16-episode fifth season in 2008-09. Comedy Central subsequently ordered a sixth season of 26 episodes, which aired in 2010-11, and a seventh season of 26 episodes, the first half of which debuted in 2012.

The news did not come as a shock to executive producer David X. Cohen and creator Matt Groening, who had thought their space explorations were ending three previous times (after the Fox run, after the four movies, and after Comedy Central’s first 26-episode order). “I felt like we were already in the bonus round on these last couple of seasons, so I can’t say I was devastated by the news,” Cohen tells EW. “It was what I had expected two years earlier. At this point I keep a suitcase by my office door so I can be cancelled at a moment’s notice.”

Meh. I'd miss it more if the show had been anywhere near as good as it was before it got cancelled the first time.

This is bullshit. Other than South Park, comedy central has NOTHING going for it.

They really are a crappy channel now.

I just heard the bad news... maybe Cartoon Network will foot the bill and order new episodes, but I highly doubt it. They'd rather waste their money on crappy shows (venture bros excluded of course). Hell why not go back to Fox and replace the Simpsons since it's not as popular as it used to be plus the network loses a ton of money paying the VA's close to $500,000/episode. The VA's for Futurama worked for way less than that because they did it for the fans.

Nigga, you best not be forgetting Black Dynamite, The Boondocks, and Squidbillies.

If I remember correctly fox has shown interest in picking it back up if CC decided to cut and run, but I have no idea where I heard that info from or if it's even almost true.

There is now a gap in their schedule created by Cleveland Show getting canceled but I doubt Fox would fill that gap with anything but more Seth McFarlane. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything new/good unless Mike Judge, Loren Bouchard or Adam Reed are involved.

Last I heard there FOX hasn't pulled the plug yet. They just haven't determined if they want to renew it or not. Personally I'd love to see that get the axe and replaced with Futurama if there is any truth in FOX having interesting in purchasing it again. Though that's wishful thinking probably.

Black Dynamite, the Boondocks, Robot Chicken, and Aqua Whatever the hell they call themselves now are the exceptions yes. Squidbillies, I am not a fan of. Honorable mentions go to Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021, and Stroker and Hoop. They just haven't has as many hits as they used to in my opinion.

Also, if the Cleveland Show is canceled, I can see them doing:

Simpsons > Bobs Burgers > Family Guy > American Dad

They should play that out for the 2013-14 season with the Simpsons having their series finally (finally), and then fox could pick up Futurama again and slot it at 8:00 to replace the Simpsons.

If there's a delay in ordering new episodes you can consider the show canceled. Animation tends to require very long lead times in production so it's not as if they have time to wait and change their minds. It's not as if this is a negotiation tactic considering the overlap between Cleveland and AD/FG.

For the same reasons Futurama will need immediate rescue if we want to see an 8th season. The artists/writers/VAs who want to continue working will all find jobs elsewhere otherwise.

Personally I'm fine with it ending. The desire to see shows run forever has ground the Simpsons into a pale shadow of its former self.

It came back a little broken and less appealing. I never checked if they scrapped the writers, but the original ones were all genius mathematicians that were vigilant about all of the scifi aspects being possible (other than Bender's metal composition). The characters themselves have all been changing per ep to fit a story as well.

I still like it, but I don't rewatch the new episodes like I had the original ones.
