DVD Drive issue.... possible full PC issue too.

So, this is new... havent used desktop in 3-4 days now.

Power on my desktop, and LED light on my dvd drive is always on. The eject button does not work, however the drive is detected correctly in the BIOS and windows explorer.

I manually opened the tray, to see if a disc was inside.... and when I went to close it, I had to force it close as it did not auto-close.

I have tried a different SATA connection, including power and still the same result.

    Is this a dead drive?

If so, I might have a bigger problem.

This will be the third device to fry in my PC, in the short timespan i've been using it. Last month my GPU died, finally bought a new one the other day. Hook it up, and then I find out one of my DDR2 slots is dead, but the other 3 work just fine (memory was fine as well).

do I have some electrical issue here, shorting everything?

Your DVD drive is almost certainly toasted.

Could just be bad luck, but 3 devices down does look like a power fault.

Do you have a multi meter? Check the voltages on the various lines:

I accept no responsibility if your power supply does turn out to be faulty, and you discover this by dying.

A pass does not necessarily mean the PSU is healthy - other things can be wrong other than the voltages.

PSU's are cheap, so it may be worth just replacing it to be safe.
