Being the epithet of bestowed upon a fabled assemblage of arms imbued with ancient moogle magic...
Translation team be damned. I thought I was fluent enough with English but they always fill their update notes with words I've never even heard about.

Not to mention in-game. Might be just my lack of attention but half of the time I have no idea what the elvaans are talking about in the WoTG nation quests.

More than likely there will be different final tiers based on what you turn in.
    FFXIII anyone!?

I wasn't a fan of the trailer. Most of the mobs and weapons don't look so great either.

Oh well, still gonna buy it lol.

Just the other day I was talking about how some COP mobs are vastly underutilised, particularly Corse and Eft. There are some Corses as random bosses for random events, but Efts are like completely limited to Bibiki Bay and they're ADORABLE.

    I'm with Rocl.

We need more Uragnites. I totally see Djinns making their way to this new realm too, with them being purple and all.

Now, for my morning cup of tea~

Chrono Trigger's "Masamune" is actually called Grandleon, and isn't the Masamune.

    just nitpicking, damn shitty translations.

Bolded part sounds like you do indeed turn in multiple completed Magian weapons. More than likely there will be different final tiers based on what you turn in. In terms of highest damage to lowest I can see:

    1) Augmented Relic + OAT Magian A + OAT Magian B = Ultimate weapon with Relic aftermath and OA 2-4 times
    2) Augmented Mythic + OAT Magian A + OAT Magian B = Ultimate Weapon with Mythic Aftermath and OA 2-4 times
    3) High DPS Magian + OAT Magian A = Highest non relic/mythic DPS Ultimate weapon w/ OAT

    so on and so forth
The french version doesn't exactly say the same thing:

... une série d'armes légendaires extrêmement puissantes, renforcées grâce à des techniques ancestrales moogle.
Which means "a set of legendary extremely powerful weapons, enhanced with ancient moogle magic". So it might just be that you can do some trials of magians to make them stronger.

    Also, yay@Masamune!

Those assault entry type gateway thingies in the vid intrigue me.

Also where's the explanation of the Iron Giant?

Weapons look nice, but I hope there's more in the way of charmables, besides mandies, efts, and perhaps even the crab thingies. The creator's Voice thing said there's 3 new areas but I hope they have some nice camps.

I like how they're using gear sets popular amongst players in official images now. See the PLD, DRK, NIN and RNG lol

My initial thought is.... why is Ridill included in almost every shot of the trailer? :D

Thinking of the previous add-ons, where you were basically paying 10 buks for a shiney new item (advertized) and some content, I wouldnt be so sure about these weapons are the new relic-level ones.
Instead it could be that they prepresent some starting, yet quite good, new weapons. So that "casuals" could still grab something cool from the add-on while hardcorers would still need them for further improvements now or in the future.

Short version : I'm wondering it these end being augumentale weapons like other add-ons items.

I'm guessing the weapons may be the reward for completion of the expansion. Also, note that 'assemblage' is used here in the context of 'a collection of', rather than 'assembled from'.

Finally, anyone else notice that the mandy in the screenshot is freaking huge? The accompanying text also notes that the mandies in Abyssea have grown muc larger than their present day relatives.

A lot of things are larger than usual... Just look at the Behemoth

This won't happen. WHM don't have a staff relic or mythic, and can still use the magian one. I don't think it will be a combination at all, just an upgrade from the magian weapons.

Or hell, it could even be a whole new weapon dropped from the Abyssea bosses that you then begin upgrading. Or an upgrade process like the other Relics, but have to undertake Magian trials on the last version in order to upgrade it fully.

To be honest, I doubt this is the new Relic weapons. I find it unlikely they would release new Relic weapons before the cap is upped to 99. At the most, this is pre-relics later used to upgrade to final relics at 99.

The main thing that strikes me about this is how much SE seems to be avoiding armor.

First we have a Magian update that conveniently sidesteps the armor issue, and instead confirms that current Magian weapons will have continued upgrades...and that there will be upgradeable weapon skills. Now we have this, which was touted as the source of AF3, but we're being shown yet more new weapons. Historically, we only need a handful of good weapons.

    Also kind of disappointing that they don't indicate the acquisition method. I mean, I have zero interest in a new Relic/Mythic type weapon. I've never been in a position to get one of those, and I sure as hell am not interested in starting on something similar at this stage of the game. Not that I didn't already preorder the thing anyway ._.;

Sorry but I don't see them handing out Masamune to everyone. These scream "relic/mythic" just reading their description.

I don't think SE ever said AF3 would come from Abyssea; I seem to remember them stating it will come from Walk of Echoes, which will be possible to do low-man like Salvage and Nyzul.

Speaking of Walk of Echoes, when will they tease us with that?

When they spoke of Abyssea, they noted it would be filled with monsters not seen in this realm, and would also harbor powerful new artifact armor.

Walk of Echos, is completely irrelevant to Abyssea, thank god.. I'm sure they'll release something about WoE in either the next teaser, or the one to follow.

I thought it seemed pretty obvious that the empyrean weapons would be final stage magian weapons... And the cool thing would be that all paths lead to the empyrean model, but the stats would be customized according to the path that players choose.

I'd also look towards aftermath effects

Then why are PLD and BLM AF3 in the art of Abyssea? They clearly said AF3 would come from there.
