By the way, the kid was shot while in Mexico, he didn't cross the border and border agents aren't allowed to cross the border.

You say this as if the Agent had him detained and popped him. He was surrounded taking hits from the rocks and told them to stop and retreat then opened fire, from the reports I have read.

It's common sense that doing something like throwing an object that can do harm at another person would be considered attacking that person.

And repeatedly assaulting a guard who has a gun will get you shot, yes I would say that is common sense.

(I say repeatedly because he continued to throw rocks after being told to stop)

Edit: This is all assuming he was in fact throwing rocks though, of course.

Did they even say if the kid actually was throwing rocks? From what I read it seemed like the Agent was in the middle of detaining someone, started getting pelted with rocks from multiple directions, gave a verbal warning and then fired warning shots after the verbal one was ignored. It doesn't seem like the kid was the intended target and we don't even know if he was even throwing rocks to begin with. Seems like he just got hit from a stray bullet the guard shot thinking he was shooting at something else.

Sucks for the kid, sucks for the guard, sucks for everyone involved and the entire situation we have brewing there.

So all I can ask is this, what's the best way to deal with this kind of situation because I sure as hell can't think of anything fair that could come of this.

If you want to criticize anyone really, you can only criticize the lax security that the Mexican government places on their side of the border. With stricter security measures, children and individuals with intent to breach the border wouldn't be in that position in the first place. I mean how much blame are you really going to place on only one side of the equation.

I'm sure the bullet had no jurisdiction.

There is no indication that the kid intended to cross the border.

Child? This nigga was 15. Had pubes, could get a drivers permit and could work, so he knew right from wrong. I think a few people in this thread are assuming this guy was a toddler or something. It doesnt make it any less fucked up but I wanted to point out the age, use the term "kid" loosely because the dude could reproduce at that point in his life...

That's not what I meant. What I meant was in general the Mexican side of the border has very limited to zero protection in some areas. If the Mexican government would seal off some of area or place added security people wouldn't be in the that position to be in danger. That includes people like this child who was throwing rocks and those with intent to breach the border.

It's also not been shown that the kid was one of the people throwing rocks. The reports all tell different stories but the agent himself said his back was turned when the rocks started coming.

I think people are just telling themselves this kid was an unrepentant freedom-hating rock-thrower so they can quietly justify him getting shot in the face and killed. Because thinking otherwise (an unarmed bystander shot to death by a trigger-happy agent) makes them uncomfortable, or something.

A few blocks east of where I live, deep in the shit, you can find plenty of very dangerous dudes. Guys with guns who will kill you if you mess with them. If I walk over there and start throwing rocks until they shoot me, is it a tragedy? Or am I just fucking retarded?

If the kid in this story was throwing rocks at the cartel, instead of American cops, what would the reaction to the story be? "Poor kid taunts bad guys, dies young" or "Wait til you hear what THIS fucking idiot did?"

I appreciate that we'd like to think that police officers/soldiers/etc are these benevolent people, hired to uphold the law and be saints among men. But come on, dude. These people are dangerous. Regardless of whether you believe it's because they're out to kill poor/black/brown/white/terrorist people, or because they're stressed out and overworked and underappreciated, it's pretty clear that cops are the wrong people to fuck with.

First I agree with you. There is no such thing as a warning shot in real life.

But my main issue with this situation is that cops, and federal agents should be (or are I am not sure) trained to respond to various situations with varying degrees that are appropriate to the situation. All the people saying that you throw rocks at a person with a gun expect to be shot, well he wasn't a person he is a trained federal agent, it is his job to be in situations like that and to keep his cool.

Rocks do warrant a response from him but in my opinion not the response of gun fire.

Throwing rocks at a federal agent is wrong and you would expect something bad to happen but I wouldn't expect the response to be gun fire. It seems at first glance based on the limited information we have to be an over the top reaction. Though who knows how many rocks or how big they were. These are all things that people are assuming in this thread that all have drastic bearing on whether or not it was an appropriate response.
