Most incidents of cops on riot duty where they kill an individual because they got carried away, yeah I'd agree. We're not talking about that though. We're talking about a CBP agent who would have to expose himself to rocks, as we know, and potential gun fire from cartel members and coyotes. To stop these people from crossing the border without just killing them from his armored car. I just can't see this in the same light even though the death is wrong.

That was my point. 100% of this thread is people making huge ass assumptions based on a vaguely worded article. We have no idea what really went down. There are so many different scenarios that it could have been.

Even assuming the kid was throwing rocks the response should be different depending on the size of the rocks and how many people were throwing them amongst other factors. Also the location and where the rock throwers were in relation to the guard. It goes on and on.

We are all making up different scenarios that could be spot on or very far from the truth.

We won't know if the guard was justified (he very well could have been in the right situation) until the actual report comes out with more details.

Mexico has demanded an inquiry after a Mexican teenager died after a US border patrol agent opened fire from the US side of the border.

The youth, believed to be 14 or 15, was found on the Mexican side under a bridge linking Ciudad Juarez with El Paso.

Al Jazeera reports that Mexican official accounts have been conflicting:

Mexican officials said that according to witness statements, the US agents on bicycle pursued the youths towards Mexico and that two of them opened fire.

Mexican state police had earlier provided a different version of events, saying the boy had been playing with two other youths on the Puente Negro bridge spanning the Rio Grande, linking Ciudad Juarez to El Paso.

Ciudad Juarez's attorney-general's office also said the youths were playing when they strayed into US territory inadvertently, and ran back towards the Mexican side after being surprised by the US agents.

The victim's parents said their son was killed inside Mexico and that he had no intention of crossing the border.

What is being reported with consistency is that the 15 year old died on the Mexican side of the border.

So if this kid was in Mexico, and people (him or others) were throwing rocks from Mexico...they'd have to throw across the river (which I know isn't very wide in places) to hit him.

How good are their arms? I mean, can't you just, ya know, step back 30 yards and be completely out of danger, assuming you are right on the other side of the river when this began?
