Need a game to play

So, it's summer, and I'm done with the first year of my PhD program. The workload has dropped a bit, and I'd like to do a bit of gaming. Problem: Nothing to play.

About my gaming tastes: I'm fairly picky. I own a 360 and PS3. I'm a dedicated player of the MGS and Final Fantasy series. Also among my favorites are Uncharted, Uncharted 2, KOTOR, KOTOR2, the Tomb Raider games on XBOX360, and the Halo series. I tried Oblivion and was pleasantly surprised (beat it but still have some sidequests). I've played everything in the FF and MGS series twice or more, except for X-2 and MGS4. I got GTA4 and didn't really enjoy it, I doubt I'll finish it.

So... I'm looking for a game. Do you know of anything that might satisfy my high standards?

Are you into mindless games that encourage destruction? Just Cause 2 is a quality game that doesn't take itself seriously (made obvious by the horrendous voice acting, to the point where it seems intentional). There's a demo to try out for it.

If you're into action games there's Devil May Cry 4 (1 & 3 as well if your PS3 is PS2 compatible) and Bayonetta.

If you're into JRPGs there's Lost Odyssey(this one is usually compared to older FFs so you might like it) and Tales of Vesperia. Again, if your PS3 is PS2 compatible, there's also Tales of the Abyss, Persona 3, and Persona 4(Persona games a really long, though. Like 80+ hours.)

Should have added stuff to the first post: I don't do mindless destruction or action (generally, Uncharted was sweet). I can't recall trying a JRPG other than FF.

How about Demon's Souls then while it's still $29? Slow paced action-adventure-rpg that has no problem kicking your ass repeatedly.

If you're looking for a hilarious old-school espionage-style game, I definitely recommend you pick up No One Lives Forever 2. One of my top favorite games. Always kept me laughing and it gives subtle RPG and stealth elements but never forces you to stick to one path. (i.e sneaking around or going in rambo style)

Bioshock/Bioshock 2 also.


I'm pretty sure if you loved Oblivion you'd really love Fallout 3. I know it's been mentioned before but you should give it a try.
