Whats the guesstimate on Q# release for this dealie?
They kept mentioning 2d playing field in the kickass demonstration on GameSpot, was that supposed to be in response to modern fighters (which hasn't been the case in the last year), or in response to the older MKs? Last MK I played was Trilogy, so I'm way behind on the specifics on the more modern titles, no idea if they played the same or not.
Regardless, I'm surprised how damn well this new iteration is looking. As long as it's balanced enough for online play I'm giving it a look out. Tag team looks fun as hell, will be great for 2-on-2 matches online.
Would be cool if this one Midway tradition makes its way in before retail release also:

imo the last great MK was MK2. I did enjoy UMK3 & MKT (PSX ver.) a bunch though.
MK2 was awsome, MK3 sucked because they took the good characters out, but I enjoyed the new run/combo system, and UMK3 became my favorite. If MKT wasnt so buggy, it would have easily taken it's place. Anything after MKT was trash.

I really hope this game finds a way to be competitive similar to SFIV...
Boon is really pushing for it to be tournament-worthy. I don't know if it'll get there, but it'll be fun, and that's all it really needs to be.
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/05...mortal-kombat/Who didn’t love The Pit in the older Mortal Kombats? If Fatalities
were too hard to pull off, you could always count on The Pit’s
stage-specific Fatality to help brighten up a newbie’s day.
That said…I never knew poor Reptile was stationed at the bottom of
The Pit. A fun little tidbit I learnt of in this video showing off the
updated Pit stage in the new Mortal Kombat.
I remember the first time I got to fight Reptile in the pit at the arcades, me and my buddies damn near shat our pants. We spent countless afternoons trying to get to him lol. Fucking awesome memories.

Jax is now in this.
A real combo platform makes this game look very nice. I'm interested!

Alleged Mortal Kombat sound files hint at more kombatants, return of Brutalities
Realm of Gaming reports the leak of sound files allegedly hidden in an assets folder on the official Mortal Kombat site. The audio clips reveal not only the potential return of the "Test Your Might" minigame and the franchise's signature Brutalities, but also a plethora of characters, including: Ermac, Goro, Human Sektor, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Smoke and Stryker. Oh, and there's this beautiful end-round taunt from Johnny Cage: "You got caged!"
The sound bytes have since been pulled from or relocated on the game site, but it would appear the damage has already been done: The files in question are currently downloadable from this Megaupload link. While they are not confirmation of the inclusion of any of these features or characters in the final release, the sound clips (if indeed authentic) at least suggest Netherrealm is playing around with said content -- then again, perhaps the studio just planted a mean red herring.
We've contacted the developer for comment.
smoke and kabal YES YES YES!!!

Mortal Kombat koming April 2011, special editions announced
Mortal Kombat's 2011 reboot will tell consumers to "get over here" in April 2011. That's the latest release window kurrently offered by Warner Bros. Interactive, with Warner Home Video's publicity site listing a more specific April 19, 2011.
To compliment its reveal of Kratos as a playable character in the PS3 version of the game, WB has announced standard, Kollector's and Tournament editions (along with several retailer-specific pre-order incentives, listed after the break).
The Kollector's Edition will include Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, a collectible art book, and DLC for "Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skins" and avatar costumes. The Tournament Edition, which will have a limited run of 20,000 copies in North America, will contain the game, DLC and ... a "portable fight stick." 'Cause, you see, if it were a fight log it wouldn't be "portable" -- it's a very necessary adjective.
Retailer-specific pre-order bonuses:
GameStop: Klassic Scorpion Playable Character Skin and the original Scorpion Fatality.
Best Buy: Klassic Sub-Zero Playable Character Skin and the original Sub-Zero Fatality.
Amazon: Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin and the original Reptile Fatality.
Ughhhhhhhh choices choices choices... looks like Kollector's Edition & Tournament Edition for me. Fuck that's gonna be like $150.![]()
