I don't think this game is complicated at all. However, its pretty fun, especially when you play with friends.

Too many people think the game only existed after Wrath launched.

No, it's just that talking about how hard it was to level/raid back in 2004 is kind of irrelevant when talking to someone who is new to WoW and just wants pointers.

It is when the person that wants pointers only has context from that time. Ragging on someone because they thought the came was too complex in 2004 doesn't help either. The leveling game at that time was indeed way more complex than it is now.

How was leveling more complex? It just took a lot longer and you were forced to grind since quests couldn't carry you to max level like it can now. It's obviously a lot easier now, but let's not act like vanilla leveling was brain surgery or something

Such guide addons also tell you 'stay the fuck away from Blasted Lands ffs.' This is actually pretty valuable stuff. If your system resources are better used elsewhere while levelling, sure, don't install an addon. But the blizzard quest tracker isn't that amazing. Armed with only the default tracker, Alliance wouldn't know there's a quest hub for them in Swamp of Sorrows, for example.

I don't agree that it was more complex per se, but let's not belittle how long it took because travel was a fuckton harder back then than it is now. There was no SW -> Darnassus route, you had to either use the BB docks or fly to Menethil. There were no flight masters in Un'Goro. The list of 'fuck it takes a long time to get there' annoyances goes on and on if we're looking at the vanilla levelling experience.

Esp. since mounts weren't level 20 and riding skill actually cost a decent amount of gold to a newbie back then. Running ftl.

Vanilla leveling had many dead-ends. Sometimes you would not be able to find the right mobs for quests, sometimes you didn't know where to go for the next quest hub. Sometimes you would get appropriate level quests right next to quests that were ten levels higher.

No, of course it was not brain surgery. You could also just muscle your way through everything too. For someone that didn't make it past 40 originally, it was obviously daunting enough to cause them to walk away. This is the game world as they knew it.

You know that the world is not that way today, and that leveling is much more simplified (as well as the XP gain is retardedly high), but someone that is coming back doesn't know that. Give them a break.

I'm actually strongly considering reactivating my account (48 hunter, Misha-US-Alliance) even though I probably will play somewhat casually. Most of the rest of the guild I'm in Raids all the time, so I get bored easily since I don't have anyone to level with, I just grind quests a lot.

Well I reactivated my account, and went from 48.5 > 50 yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have a guild anymore, and the guy that I know irl in there wasn't online to ask for another one.

The new questhelper is awesome, much better than the old add on.
