The thf and yourself are both idiots right now, you can cap acc on gkt on almost anything without needing merits and the extra attack from said merits on gkt is lol. I have 11 75s, Samurai is probably my favourite, but I'd slap myself silly if I merited gkt. Only reason for meriting gkt imo is if samurai is your only DD 75 and you never plan on levelling another one - polearm merits will serve you much better if you plan on levelling anything else that melees or shoots at monsters.

Higher skill means you get the new ws quicker!
Point-based linkshells.
lol ->
I wouldn't say the only good way. Both systems have their place, but you need a pretty tight-knit group for non-points systems to really work out.
Guess I have too many bad experiences with shady players in my past gaming experience. I wouldn't trust people like that unless I have been playing with them for a long time and it is just to open to bias decisions.
First time I used a point system was when Beyond changed to it in something like August of 2009. Now that I've used it, I can't see how anyone would want to be in a linkshell that doesn't.
With a point system, people will deserve the gear, sure, but people will also bid on nashira manteel for AFK gear to look like Naja.
With a /point system, people may deserve gear, sure, but you're dependent entirely on the whims of a few people.
tl;dr both systems depend entirely on good leadership
I always liked silent bidding systems with points because people will pay what it is worth to them. Again, depends on good leaders who won't tell their friends what other people bid.
Yep that is what my LS currently runs, works well. Although if the person really wants it they will just spend all their points, so the thing with some that aren't as deserving in terms of game progress (like a guy getting novio for his lvl 50 blm over 75's) can happen. I still think its fair if they put in the time and effort imo. Both are dependent on good leadership, but I really don't trust other systems at all that rely too heavily on leadership for decisions. Points system usually you should be able to see a record of what you and everyone else has, you see what you earn and you know its fair. Having some divine right system or w/e its called where a leader dictates who gets what drops based on their perception of your attendance is pretty lame and open to bias decisions.
Probably wrong thread, but honestly a point system is as fair as it gets. If people are misusing it then it's more of a sign that the leadership/rules are weak rather than point system.
i.e. Ya we track your attendance and your rewards are directly dependent on that, but we also determine who can bid on what items based on job/usage/etc.
I also love a points system because anytime someone bitches about someone else getting an item all I have to say is "Oh, you're upset someone who worked harder to get an item received it before you?" for them to shut up about it.
