My ls doesn't use a points system, well it does, but not to choose who lots. if you got 250pts+ any job is concidered "main job" if not then any job apart from your "main" is an add job, and any main jobs can lot on something that drops regardless of points if they are equal priority.
Limbus is seperate, priority goes to those with most attendance in farming that perticular set.

Not gonna lie, although it means if you set your main job to something, you could get a drop rpetty quick if you won lot, which means theoretically i could get shit quick, so benefits newer members like myself, I don't like it. points in this LS are pretty worthless.

So you're saying Noodles that if a "Main Rdm" in your LS had a pimp Drk as well and that Rdm had been in the LS for a year, but a new LS "main war" just joined, they would get E.body first..?

    Or am I misreading?

Say you're a "Main" Rdm, with drk, gimp or pimp doesn't matter, and had over 250 points.
New player (but has finished trial, is full member) comes along with War as "main".

    Ebody drops*

You, the new war, and anyone with war/drk main job, or as additional job but with over 250 points can lot.

*Well, ebody has a special list, based on who the sacks think deserve it most, like most shells have with big things like ebody, dring etc, but you get the general idea.

Like last odin, nlegs dropped, 250+adds, any points mains got to lot, someone with under 100 pts got to lot against someone with over 1000. (I can't remember who won, think it was someone with high points, like 800+, but still).

Only reason for meriting gkt imo is if samurai is your only DD 75 and you never plan on levelling another one - polearm merits will serve you much better if you plan on levelling anything else that melees or shoots at monsters.
I'd be careful about making assumptions about what goes on at 75. Next week, the game is about to change, fundamentally, for the first time in like 6 years. We can speculate and speculate the speculations, but as it stands, we don't -really- know whats going to happen with a raised level cap.

Still doesn't change that, as it stands, meriting GKT is a very hard decision to justify, and QQing over someone getting J-torque without merits is stupid.

Or people who are stupid and don't understand the worth of something like Novio Earring just bid all their points on it when they(Or I) could have bid half of it and won it.

Not that I don't think Ice staff using errant legs wearing BLMs shouldn't all have Novio.

I guess they did "earn" it and obv. wanted it but I guess I'm for gearing people for the LS not gearing people for shits and giggles.

The thing is there's nothing wrong with people spending their points on stuff purely for aesthetic value or on things that they won't put to good use, so long as the system makes it so that you have to perform well and contribute to the LS in order to earn those points. If they legitimately earned those points then it shouldn't matter what they do with the gear they choose to spend them on, it's their choice. Point systems are easily the fairest way to do things. /Point systems will always be subject to a lot of bias and skewed by personal opinion, regardless of how "tight-knit" your group is.

Point systems are awful, takes far too long to get anything you want for the most part, stuff ends up getting floored that could have gone to someone for use at a later date because no one wants to spend valuable points on it then and there, solution: freelot/use your own judgment system aside from special/rare items of course and don't invite greedy fucks to your linkshell.

I've been in several shells that worked on points and every time it was a god damn nightmare. Not only is it nearly impossible for any new member to get good gear thanks to senior members who have points to burn, but it tends to be the newer members who need the gear more to rise above their gimpness, so you start getting a sloping curve of more and more decked out senior members and gimper and gimper newer members, making your roster extremely lopsided. Then the shell leaders see the new members leaving out of frustration of lack of progress and only getting trash items and take it as justification for the points system: "See, they weren't really planning on sticking around anyway, good thing we use points! That way our older members get rewarded better!" It's extremely easy for even the best leaders to fall into this trap, since a points system really can't work any other way. Granted this mostly happens with larger shells, but the smaller shells I've been in never felt the need to work on points anyway.

A hybrid system could potentially work but personally I enjoy the system of smaller shells I've been in which have almost exclusively been "leader says who gets rare items, everything else use your own judgment". This only works with a fair leader of course but if you don't have a fair leader you'll probably not want to be in that shell in the first place (Siren's RocDynasty flock of sheep notwithstanding). With this type of system, even new members get geared far more evenly. I've never been happy with any other lotting system, it feels really good when the people around me are fair and treat others in the shell the way they want to be treated and it's nice to feel the same rush when someone in shell who really deserves it gets an item as when you get an item. I know this can't work for every shell, especially large ones where loot has to be divided more carefully because it's spread thinner, but that's why I've always advocated smaller shells in the first place. I don't think many people like being in a shell with 25-40 members, being relegated closer to 'just a number' and having to wait in a long line for gear; though as the game progresses farther into its lifespan, this is happening less and less anyway.

tl;dr big shells and long lines for gear suck, best ones are small with fair members/leader who all care about each other and don't utilize a point system.

To be fair, a large majority of shells are flooring gear due to everyone having and no buyers these days as opposed to no one can pay for it. I was never a fan of tossing gear away, there is enough repetition in this game as is.
