there goes cal's chances at ever making a rose bowl
In the next week or so, there's going to be all kinds of teams jocking for position. I wouldn't be surprised to see the ACC stripped because of this...if not dissolved.
BUT WHERE WILL MY BELOVED HOKIES GO?
Well, I didn't consider that side of the fence. I was thinking schools like Miami/FSU/V. Tech seeing schools moving around for more money, so using the "Well if they're doing it, now's a good time for us/why not us" type of mentality.
But hey, maybe not. I just see this as being a big deal and will have incredible domino effects within the next year.
It's official: Colorado to Pac 10

June 10, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--The Pacific-10 Conference announced today that the University of Colorado at Boulder has accepted an invitation to join the Conference as it’s 11th member, the first new member since July 1, 1978.
“This is an historic moment for the Conference, as the Pac-10 is poised for tremendous growth. The University of Colorado is a great fit for the Conference both academically and athletically and we are incredibly excited to welcome Colorado to the Pac-10,” said Commissioner Larry Scott.
“On behalf of The University of Colorado students, faculty, alumni and fans, we are proud to accept this invitation from the Pac-10 and join the most prestigious academic and athletic conference in the nation, “ said Philip P. DiStefano, chancellor of CU-Boulder.
“The University of Colorado is a perfect match - academically and athletically - with the Pac-10,” said University of Colorado President Bruce D. Benson, “our achievements and aspirations match those of the universities in the conference and we look forward to a productive relationship.”
Commissioner Scott, Chancellor DiStefano, President Benson, CU Board of Regents Chairman Steve Bosely and CU Athletics Director Mike Bohn and others will hold an official press conference on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. MT at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo.
11 team conference gets the Pac10 nowhere, just like the Big10 back when it got Penn St.
Obviously something else in the works there.
Now Notre Dame needs to get there shit together and join the Big 10 so they can make some real cash. Besides super conferences will kick ass.
Part of me thinks that this Big XII business means the conference wasn't doing as well financially as everyone seemed to think it was. It went right from Big 10 discussing expansion to the Big XII folding...a BCS conference with 2 teams providing BCS money just doesn't fold like that randomly. I also wonder if this ties into the some deal last year about the Fiesta Bowl hurting for cash and wanting to find a co-sponsor.
That said, Mizzou would have been a better all round addition to the Big 10 due to basketball semi-relevance. But Nebraska is a MUCH more solid addition to the conference in terms of football, and in my mind almost makes the Big 10 as relevant as the SEC overnight.
I do love it though that the SEC is basically watching all this with a collective "thats real fucking neato" attitude about it.
I simply dont see the point in a 16 team conference for the Pac-10. They're just gonna water themselves down so much, and can only still send at most 2 teams to the BCS. Mountain West benefits almost as much as the Big 10, cause they can now add 2-3 teams from the Big XII and exert their spot as a BCS conference.
2010 Big XII football is gonna be interesting.
Im happy for Colorado. I hope the Buffs will rise again and get back to what they had when Stewart, Westbrook, Charles Johnson, Rashaan Salaam and those beasts were ripping shit.
well maybe not purdue
but they wouldn't get the favor of the 'independent schedule'
I thought I heard / read somewhere that ND would make more in the Big 10?
Hey now I attend a Pac-10 school. Also NOT THE WORST IN THE CONFERENCE ANYMORE WOO it's going to be fun beating up on WSU. My brother is also probably going to be attending UW soon, oh god hahaha.
Hopefully this boosts the recruiting for CU.
