Oh yea...I suddenly remembered I never did list the best beer I've ever had on here. While others have been impressive, this is without a doubt the best beer I've consumed...especially considering the entire package.

I of course speak of the Augustinerbrau Beer Hall in Salzburg, Austria.

Beer Advocate gives it a measly A-, but I'll forgive their insolence for now: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1787/6583

This is, of course, not a beer you get or drink in a bottle. Poured strait from wooden barrels into porcelain mugs is the only way to go. This guy said it pretty well:

Augustiner Bräu is just across the German-Austrian border in Salzburg, land of Mozart and of course "Bob's Special Sound of Music Tour." The beer garden is part of a Benedictine monastery founded in 1605 whose worldly brethren began brewing fermented libations in 1621. They specialized then and still do today in brewing a heavily malted Oktoberfest-style beer that is served in distinctive clay-porcelain mugs. The beer is as good as it gets. It's also about the cheapest, because even in euros Augustinerbräu here is still priced well below anything you'll find in Munich. Local Brewmeister Christian Spatzenegger intends to keep it that way and he'll probably tell you so when he makes his afternoon rounds to visit everybody he can in the beer garden. We wouldn't ask you to travel all this way if it wasn't worth the trip. This is a 5-beer experience.

If you ever find yourself in or anywhere near Austria...this is a trip worth making. We walked around the entire god damn city, including around the stupid fort, up to the fort, down the fort, and down the river all in pouring rain...but it was well worth it. So god damn good. As an interesting side note...this beer gave me the worst gas of any beer in my life. I thought I was going to shit out a house, and all that came out was enough wind to end the fires in Russia this summer. I literally lol'd at the sheer ridiculousness of it. So you have that to look forward to as well.

A- in BA is great actually. Shit, anything above B- is usually pretty good.

I know its not just me, but I really am not a fan of Chimay or a lot of the other Trappist beers I've tried (can lump St Bernardus in there too just for good measure). Some people absolutely love them, but I just don't get it. Some are okay, but nothing that has come close to blowing me away or leaving me impressed.

Skyylya...you're in Brandon, you gotta get your hands on some Cigar City beers.
I've tried some at old chicago but i haven't made it out to the brewery. A guy i work with did and said it was awesome there so it's definitely on the agenda.

I just got to try both their Pumpkin Head, and the Smashed Pumpkin, I thought both of them were really great. Like Pumpkin Pie liquefied and made into a beer.

I doubt you can get it in NH but there's a great little brewery called Hoppin' Frog here in Ohio that just won the gold medal at the GABF for their pumpkin beer Frog Hollow, it's also FANTASTIC. I don't know how I forgot to mention it. They're also the ones who make the BORIS RIS which gets the gold at GABF all the time.

We have a store nearby that sells a large variety of beer, exotic and foreign, and from not around here. Next time I go there I'll see if they have Hoppin' Frog.

I love Belgian beer, it's the most flavorful and divine brew to ever pass across these lips. Trappist is no exeception, St Bernardus, Chimay, all of it. Just had a Prior 8 this evening, was wonderful. I guess the sweetness can be a bit of a turnoff for some people, but its a very well rounded sipping beer. Lately been into blondes / goldens like Duvel and pilsners like Blue Paddle and Trumer Pils though, stuff is perfect for the end of summer imo.

All the people in this thread who post about how wonderful Guinness is, try Guinness Extra Stout, you'll never go back to the sub-par draught again.

That is awesome man, hope you enjoy Salzburg. Its such a beautiful city, hope you made it out to the monk beer garden too. Definitely jealous, I can't wait to make it back out to Europe. Going twice has only increased my desire to go. Report back about your trip when you get a chance!

The freaking biergarten didn't open til 5! But it's ok. This guy who is dating a member of the family I am staying with and I were talking about it. When I told him it was closed when we were there he said "I'll be right back" and ran out the house. I think he just pulled up now. Let's hope

What I AM sad I missed was this 200'th anniversery oktoberfest beer. I was there and apparently didn't know there was a special tent this year where all 6 of the brewmasters got together and made some sort of super beer...

Been drinking lots of good beers but haven't been posting them. Had this one recently:

    http://www.etruth.com/staffBlogs/ima...25%20anniv.JPG

My roommate had actually been looking everywhere for this and when we found it he bought the place out (3-6 packs and some singles) at $20 a 6 pack. I have to say it was fucking delicious

I grabbed a sixer of that about a month ago; it's damn tasty. Bell's makes some pretty good stuff.
