Kirin is bad and you should feel bad![]()
Kirin is pretty much the bottom tier of JP beers. Hitachino, however, is not.

dat hitachino sweet stout. I could drink that nectar all freakin' day
Thanks for that recommendation, I'll have to look to see if I can get some shipped in
Fiance' picked out a Hitachino for herself the other day. Sweet Stout. It was pretty tasty.
Sweet Stout > White Ale > Red Rice. I've never found Espresso Stout anywhere, so I can't add it to the Hitachino rankings.
Ironically she picked it because it had a "cute little owl" on it. And she likes stouts.
That owl is pretty tight.
Bah, been meaning to look for the Hitchino Nest Stout... can't find it. Local shop only has:
Hitachino 3 Days Ale
Hitachino Ancient Nippon
Hitachino Commemorative
Hitachino Ginger
Hitachino Red Rice
Hitachino White Ale
Hitachino XH
The Nipponia is pretty damn good, as is the Red Rice.

Fiance and I's new years beer.
It was between that or the 1-year barrel aged B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher
I'm enjoying some nice Abita Turbodog for new years
Damn, almost a year and no beer posts! I'm hooked on Short's Mystery Stout. Oatmeal, cocoa, and molasses at 10% is excellent indeed. Not my pic...

This thread should have so much more activity. I've been crushing down some Founder's Breakfast Stout since I was able to snag a keg of it for the kegerator.
My latest squeeze:

I notice you're located in Michigan, It's probably a small batch brew. I'll have to mention it to the Founder's brewery rep I know and see what I can find about it!
I also absolutely love Backwoods. The oak reallybalances the smoothness of it all. A snifter of it is top notch winter drinking. Another very awesome scotch ale is "Scotty Karate" from Darkhorse Brewery out there in Michigan.
How is that Game of Thrones beer? Is the licorice prevalent?
It could have been more prevalent, it was like a less heavy and more enjoyable guiness. I finished the pint with little effort, gf hated it, great head, not much aroma, and the miller lite I had after was like drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth.
I don't drink stouts, but I really enjoyed it. I drink hoppier flavors typically.
IPA's are too bitter/hoppy for me. I live in a small town that has two decent stores for selection. One has only a third of their inventory priced and the owner just stares at you when you walk in so I do not go there. The other has a pretty good selection and I usually grab a "build your own 6-pack" for $9.99 before tax/deposit. They usually have a great selection of craft beers so you end up making out better than grabbing a 6. Example would be a 6 of say Founders Dirty Bastard is I believe $12.99, but they usually have a few in the builders area. Also, that's where they put the majority of seasonal beers and break up seasonal 12 packs.
From the 6 pack I built last night I have left a Mystery Stout and the beers below

I enjoyed the Game of Thrones Ommegang as well. I grabbed a bomber from the local distributor and then my girlfriend and I went to an Ommegang Tap Takeover event where they had it on tap.
The event was fun as well. They paired gourmet pizzas with their beers. The pairings were done pretty well and the kegs were fresh so it was a good time all in all. If you can find one near you I'd suggest going. Unlimited pizza and beer for $49 a head.
